So I have a form of cancer that means I need to avoid certain foods that are mast cell antagonists, otherwise I’ll go into anaphylactic shock, which, if you don’t know, can be fatal. Chocolate is one of the things I need to avoid. Super annoying, but 99.9999999% of restaurants are accommodating when it comes to not violating the Americans with Disabilities Act. Not the Wellesley Shake Shack!
So today I saw that they had a Dubai Chocolate milkshake, which would be 100% safe for me if we removed the chocolate (it sounds silly I know but it would still be really good). I was super excited about this, I had to put my dog to sleep this weekend, it’s been a rough couple of days and the idea of a pistachio milkshake sounded great. The staff and manager at this location basically told my husband to cope harder when he tried to order this with modifications and said that they weren’t interested in or willing to be accommodating.
Which is ridiculous because I’ve absolutely had “secret menu” shakes made for me over the years with modifications at the West Hollywood and Madison Square Park locations. This isn’t some Michelin star restaurant, this is “hey can I get a milkshake without chocolate” and their attitude is apparently that anaphylaxis is better than swapping one ingredient out of a milkshake.
So if the current dystopian climate of racism, antisemitism, homophobia just wasn’t doing it for you in terms of “life just isn’t causing enough unnecessary or pointless harm to people” you should absolutely go to the Wellesley Shake Shack Where you’ll be able to add some old-school ableism to your “I can’t believe this shit is still happening in 2025” bingo card.
This location is unsafe for people with...
Read moreUsually don't write long write-ups for reviews but this was an exception. First time getting shake shack. Online ordering and pickup was straight forward. Ordered a hotdog with cherry peppers and a standard burger with onions and pickles
First of all, on pick up orders, why do they not wrap their burgers? Mine was just left in an open bag with my burger in a paper sleeve, leaving half of the burger just out in the open. I live 10-15 minutes away and it just cooled down already by the time I reach home. What is the point of this? Why not just wrap it in aluminum foil or paper like everywhere else.
The burger itself seemed pretty small. It tasted alright but nothing special and it was still too small to justify the price. It's smaller than a burger king junior whopper but close to 50% more expensive.
The Hot dog was just a split hot dog in an empty bun, they didn't even bother to remember putting in the cherry peppers which I paid extra for lol. I would be lying if I said the dog itself didn't taste good but it's still just the dog and bun. There are next to no options to add on to the hot dog online, besides cheese sauce, bacon, crispy onions and cherry peppers. So if your not a fan of those then your paying $4.50 for a dog in a bun.
Not a fan, just not...
Read moreMy Grandaughter has Celiac disease and cannot eat Gluten. I personally went to Shake Shake in Wellesley and ordered a cheeseburger to be placed in a separate bag from the others so there would not be any cross contamination. I specifically asked at the register to get a Gluten free roll. I even asked for him to go to the back and ask the back to be sure to make this noted. I noticed there was a large group of Haitians speaking in French that did not speak English. So afterwards wondered if this was the cause for the error? That night my granddaughter was throwing up and begging me saying “ Help Me.”! I went back today and asked to speak to the manager and asked her “ can I see the normal roll and the gluten free roll”? The reason I asked was my grand daughter said she noticed her roll was the same as the others. More yellow. Well indeed we were NOT given a gluten free roll. I have always loved the hamburgers at Shake Shake but the. Team needs to be aware of this very important disease. The people serving need to be trained. The date this happened was June 29...
