I ordered the duck fat burger because it was highly recommended. I also ordered the house burger as well. The presentation on their food was amazing until we started eating the food. I wasn't sure how the burger was going to taste since it's cooked in duck fat, but the burger tasted a little off. I did see more pink than usual, but as I was checking it, the burger was very undercooked. I felt sick immediately and called the restaurant. My rating for the customer service is a two star because of how things were handled and the conversation with the manager. I offered to email the photo to the manager because I don't think they believed me, and the manager at first said they had a busy night. As the conversation went on, she then said it was rare they served undercooked food. Again, I offered to send them a photo. The manager did say she would give me a certificate to replace my order, but after this experience, I don't think I will be returning. I understand mistakes happen, but this was very undercooked, and the whole situation was very upsetting. You can kindly keep your certificate because after great thought I will not be returning, not because of your service but because of the food. At this moment I would not recommend this place. Main photo: Fat duck burger 2nd photo: House burger (suppose to be medium rare)

Response to restaurant: When speaking to the manager, she asked that I NOT post a review and they would double the certificate. My ill Aunt did call because she was highly disgusted with the response of how your restaurant served uncooked food. Also, when speaking with the manager, she NEVER stated I received the wrong burger. 😕 I ordered two burgers, and she tried to say the house burger was supposed to be medium rare. However, that was not the burger that was uncooked. It was the fat duck burger, so I would appreciate it if your manager would say the truth in the conversation we had. She also stated that the cook was very busy with orders and just trying to get the burgers out to customers. We ordered closer to the evening, and from what my fiance seen they were not as busy. Absolutely no excuse for this, and the manager did call back after 930 pm. complaining about my ill aunt, who was the one who was originally supposed to get the burger, but we decided to switch....

There are restaurants that are good, ones that are really good, ones that are REALLY good, and then there's Wild Roots... Wow! We visited on a brisk January Saturday evening and we knew beforehand that you would need a reservation. We were seated right away. Our server Mauricio was friendly, had spot on timing and was happy to help all night. We decided to have a starter and went with the Vietnamese Chicken Wings. They were tremendous. Wonderful flavor and cooked perfectly. We all had some drinks as well, the Maple Old Fashion was quite remarkable of the many great selections offered.

For dinner, we all had different entrees (and since we're family, we all shared tastes!): For my wife, the Faroe Island Salmon - fantastic flavor and the Faroe Grain that was a side was notably tasty. I was intrigued by and ordered the Duck Fat Burger and it may have been one of the best burgers I've ever had. Juicy and so packed with flavor with the home made thousand to perfectly finish the package. It was all wonderful. I see there are quite a few other great reviews on that item too. Highly recommended. My son-in-law chose the Dry Aged Duck Breast and my daughter picked a special for the night, a Hare and pasta with red wine/chocolate sauce. All were made to perfection and the sides were equally good next to the main which is always a nice surprise.

Finally, since we were celebrating a birthday, we splurged on desert (something we don't normally do) but when everything was SO good, how could we go wrong! And, we didn't. We all shared the bread pudding served with chocolate sauce and ice cream on top. Fantastic. This restaurant is...

I really had high hopes for Wild Roots. I follow the Milwaukee Foodie page, and people always rave about how good the food is. I went Wednesday, and unfortunately did not have the great experience I had hoped for. I work in the food industry, and I understand how tough it can be to fine employees right now. With this in mind, I do understand it can be out of the control of the staff to always keep up with business. When we arrived, my party of 2 was able to grab the last seats at the bar and were told it could be a wait for the food since they were short staffed, we decided to stay anyways. It took over an hour and a half to get our food. We ordered the Broccoli florets, the coffee carrots, Crab cake, and the duck fat burger with fries. The Broccoli was so charred and black, it was inedible. It was $10 for the size of an 8 oz cup, which I feel is definitely overpriced. The Crab cake was cold, and tasted very fishy. It needed a few extra ingredients and a better cook to really leave a mark. BUT, the carrots were absolutely amazing as well as the burger and fries. You could tell the fries were double fried, and the smell of the duck fat burger radiated the room. It was better than I could have imagined. Now, I considered and weighed all of the factors of the visit, and I would go again to try other items, but it was unfortunate our food was not great all around. But let me say this, the server and bartender who were working were really busting their butt to attend to everyone, and it really showed. The pictures are of the carrots and...

This was my second time here, but my first time for lunch. I came with a couple of friends, with the goal of trying their highly praised Duck Fat Burgers, which were rated as the second-best burger in Milwaukee by Milwaukee Magazine. We were not disappointed. It was a Wednesday, and we arrived a little before noon. There were a few other people there, some at the bar and others at the small tables. The place is a little loud, with lots of hard surfaces and music playing. We were greeted by a very friendly server, who seemed to be doing pretty much everything except the cooking. There are a couple of different burgers on the menu, but we all went with the Duck Fat Burger. It is a one-third pound patty, cooked to order. My medium-rare came out exactly as I like it. The combination of caramelized onion, cheese, and thousand island was well balanced. The bun was nicely grilled, and the crunch lasted through the entire meal. The French fries were hot and flavorful, with a very crusty exterior and a soft inner texture. I talked to the cook, who let me in on the secret, they double fry them. With the exception of the noise level, it was an excellent burger experience. The service was very good (thanks, Jessica). I will definitely be coming back again.
