Knock Twice Speakeasy — Restaurant in West Bloomfield Township

1st and foremost, when it comes to those who look like me, I am always going to support. Many of "us" patronize establishments not by "us" and have terrible experiences, but continue to support them, "we" even go as far as to tell others about it for them to have a terrible experience as well. However, when it comes to supporting our own, "we" have 1 bad experience and "we" blast it from the mountain tops and refuse to return without giving "our own" an opportunity to redeem themselves nor do "we" give true constructive feedback without dissing or shaming the establishment. BUT, to each it's own🤫. Alright that's that, just had to get it off my chest 😉. Now that I am done with my soapbox🧼, on to the review.

This establishment has a mature sophisticated feel to it, speakeasy style, yet more of a quaint restaurant ambiance. It's hidden, which is the historical art of a speakeasy, yet it has a full restaurant menu, live band, dj/music and the like. Our first visit, a party of 3 ladies (from Detroit, Harper Woods, Cali). I was the 3rd to arrive and when I got there, my party was having their photos taken by one of the owner's, Dennis. When they arrived, they were immediately welcomed and asked if they had a reservation (we did not), a table was prepared, but we chose the bar. After our pleasant photo shoot, we ordered drinks and food (the tacos, salmon bites, truffle fries, and bbq wings). Everything was appealing to the eyes and pleasant to the palette (the grilled salmon bites were cooked to perfection👌🏿 and the bartender, Antonio, was entertaining although he didn't work there - inside joke😂). The owners, Dennis and India were a delight from start to finish, we were even given a personal tour of the place. The esthetics are modern with a vintage flair. Our only critique, which is small and an easy fix, was the restroom needed a little attention (I will say it was after 10 PM when we arrived, this is not me excusing it, I am simply stating a fact 😉). Overall our experience was very pleasant and we will definitely be returning soon, especially for Thursday's karaoke night, considering we "Karoeked" our way out the door🎶!!!! 🎤🎤🎤

Last thing, I would like to address some additional charges. Credit cards are given an additional charge, which is becoming more common among "all" establishments. We didn't have a problem with it at least the gratuity was not mandatory😂, well for a party of less than...

Thank goodness for the good company, live entertainment, and the food was actually good. Buuuuttt.....I got to say the experience was not quite like I would have expected for our/my first visit. The sever literally never returned back to our table and neither did anyone else from this establishment until we actually had to go up to the bar after waiting over 30+mins for drinks and now all of the sudden there made, so I politely asked if those were for our table and they stated "yes" and asked for then to be canceled and asked for the bill. There was no argument or no resolution at this time. Now the co-owner (Nacho) comes about 10mins later and comps our table drinks for our inconvenience which was very nice and he explained the establishments situation again we didn't pressure our sever one but we were jus asking for necessities like napkins, we actually never received them we actually went to the restroom to get them because she never brought them to us. Our food came out one plate at a time and our drinks maybe two at a time after a lone time. Was it busy the bar not at all. The dining area, not much. We weren't the only ones leaving. Our party didn't even want to wait for the comped drinks. Our bill was well over $230 for 4 which would have been more, but our server never returned, literally! Included was the entertainment fee which was ok with me because the entertainment was well known by me and one of the reasons for actually goin this nite, but they were wrong on all accounts this nite I'm sorry. We were told that our waitress was new which it didn't appear to us that she was new at all! Instead of the other staff including the owner sitting down while the waitress was the only one working the floor maybe they should have helped her out! Or they should have helped her out on all the tables and not just the tables of which held their friends. There's much more I could say, but I'll stop here. We considered returning for brunch as we were convinced that it was top-notch, but we'll see if we want to put ourselves through that...

I will never visit again or recommend to anyone. We loved our waitress, it was her first night and by no means is this a reflection of HER service.

A young lady decided that she was going to take our table but never came over. She instead changed her mind 20/30 minutes into us being there that she was no longer going to take us. Meanwhile we’re sitting watching multiple servers walk back and forth in front of us and not saying a word! Not even “hey, have you guys not been taken care of yet?”

I had to reach out to the host for us to be acknowledged. Fast forward to our lovely waitress who took care of us, was attentive and apologetic.

Btw the vibes were nice but the place is small, the band was good but I felt my personal space being intruded on when the table next to us decided to turn the 2 feet between us and them into a ballroom floor. I’m all good for people having fun and letting loose but again, this is also my experience.

Our waitress took our drink order and they turned out fantastic. Fast forward to dinner…my S/O and I ordered food TOGETHER, our food should’ve come out TOGETHER. He ordered lemon pepper wings and I ordered the very tiny amount of salmon. There was absolutely no reason for me to have sat and watched my partner eat or have my partner not eat for more than 15-20 minutes while we wait for SALMON to be grilled. I sat and filled up on limp truffle fries before I had to again pull my waitress aside and ask why I’ve been waiting on SALMON! By the way, I saw what they brought out (before I turned it away) and it was 4-5 morsels of it.

I have been waiting to patron at knock twice and I am highly disappointed that even after we requested to speak to the manager, they said “F” us and never came over.
