I want to say I’ve been ordering take out from here for years but my family and I have never eaten inside brown rice before. Initially there was no issue at all, we placed our orders and got our drinks on time. My issue began when the food started coming out and the spice level of all the dishes was outrageous. My family is Vietnamese so we can very easily handle spice— in fact we prefer a lot of it. However the spice level of somehow ALL the dishes were intolerable. The kids couldn’t finish their meal and when my parents tried it, they couldn’t either. As my family is eating the non spicy dishes that we all decided to share instead, I’m still taking bites from other dishes and the appetizers we ordered because mines hasn’t come out yet and we notified the waiter about it (I ordered the drunken noodles). He said he would come back with it right away (this was a weekday and the restaurant only had around 4 other tables so it wasn’t even half full). By the time my family is practically done with their meals I still haven’t gotten my dish and that’s when my mom gets mad because all the dishes came out but mine and we were lied to. The owner hears my mom asking where it was/why they would bring out all the dishes for our table except mine. The owner comes in and tries to de escalate the situation as the waiter comes out with my dish that’s supposedly been done for a while and no one just brought it out to me. The owner did make us laugh but at the same time, he was trying to justify why it was late and that we shouldn’t be upset along with the fact that I was overdramatic. Initially this would’ve been fine because I understand small businesses considering my family has one as well so I have a lot of sympathy but the my dish was intolerably spicy just like the other dishes as well and it ruined my appetite completely and I just ate along with my mom from her dish instead. It was honestly a waste of time and poorly executed dish. When the bill comes my family paid immediately and we were unhappy with the service along with the quality of the food but we still tipped 18% out of courtesy in cash. We gave it to the owner who counted before we left and he stopped us and said “the tip wasn’t enough”😹. My friend that tip is more than enough than what was earned but do not be so greedy because you had a slow dinner hour. Lol my family just stood there asking if he was serious because 1. Tipping is optional. 2. You guys never deserved the tip with the service quality because I would never blame the kitchen’s poor cooking on the waiter. However the waiter and owner tried to justify and call us overdramatic even though my dish came out when my family was already done with their food. At most, usually people will tip nothing or 15% max. My family tipping 18% was very generous. 3. The owner tried telling us the cash we gave was WRONG. Telling us we needed to give more even though we paid fully in cash for the bill along with the tip. This was such an atrocious situation that we just got up and left because we absolutely did nothing wrong. I refuse to argue with someone who is greedy and cannot count. He knew not to do anything or to escalate it because he knew we paid in full and tipped well😹. Trying to get more money from us as we are leaving is silly and I refuse to ever order take out or step foot into the greedy and mediocre restaurant again. Sir if we didn’t give you enough cash why didn’t you stop or call the police? Yeah it’s because you knew we paid correctly and tipped well even after so many incidences without a proper apology. I will be leaving this here and I always leave things where they are but this experience truly ruined my experience, which was disappointing considering everything else was fine. I encourage reflection upon this experience without a...
Read moreThe best thai food iv ever had. Every time I got thai somewhere else I'm disappointed because it's not even close to being as good as brown rice
Edit: Update. Recently within the last year or so, I hate to say it but the food is nowhere as good as it used to be at the old location. My gf and I always get the same thing every time pretty frequently- maybe once a month, sometimes more. But we’ve been eating here since 2015. The food has gone from “hidden gem” to “mehh”. Normally I would find a new place to eat, but we LOVED this place for the amazing food they had. I think its clear the food won’t be going back to the original quality. I’m not sure if they just got new owners, cut costs somewhere in the food, or have new chefs/cooks. At the old location there was a group of some kind women cooking the food. We always got the impression this is what made Brown Rice so special- they very obviously had many years of cooking experience in Thai food.
Now when I order drunken noodles its always inconsistent- last time there was huge pieces of broccoli and other random vegetables that aren’t even in the description. Drunken noodles always had a delicious thick sauce with ground chicken carrots onions basil and peppers. Where is the meal I used to get all the time ?!? The flavor is watery and fishy. Fish sauce shouldn’t just make it taste foul/fish. It should increase the flavor. My gf always gets See U in Kale. Shes been eating at the old location longer than I. It was her favorite thing to eat for years! But now she said, like me, it’s watery with no flavor and comes with random vegetables. Honestly there wasn’t really even a difference between the two meals.
Sadly they've been at this location long enough now that it’s probably not going to change.
If the owner is reading this, please fix the quality issues! The sauce im any dish should never be watery! It should be savory, with the correct ingredients as...
Read moreBe prepared to get INSULTED, Worst customer service experience on my recent visit. Been to this restaurant 2 times( 1 at old location and 1 at the new location) and this was my 3rd visit with few guests who were visiting me. For the experience and insult I faced, there will be no more visits.
I paid the whole bill and my guests wanted to tip in cash outside of the bill. So I just paid the complete bill only with my tip through their new QR code online payment. While my guests were still finishing up Thai Tea , surprisingly the Male server (Tattoo Guy) came back with a printed bill and he literally threw the bill on the table saying the tip was not enough and he demanded more tip. He decided to barge in and insult everyone on the table as if the bill was not paid.
Mister server guy: Learn the minimum manners required to do your job. Make sure you never approach your customer's table with such a rude arrogant behavior if you are working only to collect the tip. You can always ask whether the food and service was good and anything you can improve on, but never Demand and be arrogant in your line of business.
I always supported local business and recommended such business to my friends and colleagues. Was glad to see this restaurant expanding with time but seems like the arrogance of the person has gone up with their growth as well. That guy completely ruined our view towards this business. I recommended this restaurant to my friends but not anymore, its not worth ruining your day.
Hope he improves at least by seeing this review. This review is only based on my experience with the Male server and not any other servers in...
