TLDR: I would avoid eating here if you have dietary restrictions. I have Celiac and I was given one option, then when it came out it had a breaded chickpea patty on it.
Detailed: I asked the server if there was a gluten free menu and they said no, but they would check with the chef on which options were gluten free or able to be prepared that way. I was pleasantly surprised by the quick thinking and willingness to check. They came back and stated that the only option that was gluten free was an avocado toast sandwich, so I ordered it. When it was brought to the table, it had a breaded chickpea patty on it. The server asked if I still wanted it and mentioned that it only had a few bread crumbs on it (despite it seeming to be fully breaded). I informed them that I have Celiac and would not be able to eat the sandwich. The server then took the sandwich back to the kitchen, removed the patty, and brought me back the same sandwich. Since I had been informed that the patty only had a few bread crumbs, I scraped off what remaining residue I could see, removed the side of the sandwich that had been on the patty, and ate.
This was my own choice due to a variety of factors. I do not blame the restaurant entirely for me having been glutened
I sat for a while drinking my tea and reading, when the server came back with a second sandwich. They stated that the kitchen felt bad about the earlier error and made me a portabella burger to make up for the mistake. While I did not want the burger, I was still hungry and I ate the mushroom, tomato, and some on the dressing. It was deliciously cooked and flavorful. However, the earlier experience really...
Read moreChicago is known for its brunch and brunch places. It is one of the few cities that I know where brunch is a big thing. So naturally, I had to try Stay Cafe in Logan Square. First, I loved the interior. I thought their exposed brick walls with lush plants were so cool and captured the Chicago and Logan Square vibe. Plus, they have a huge feature fall featuring a cool mural in their sitting area. Second, they have parking. In Chicago, I cannot emphasize how important this is, especially a neighborhood like Logan Square that has a lot of parking restrictions. It’s right next store and it’s huge. It’s the parking lot for the closed CVS. Sadly, when I went to the restaurant, I wasn’t aware of it, and parked on the street a few blocks away. Third, their food is amazing. I ordered a latte, the red velvet buttermilk pancakes, the stay burger, house cut fries and the all American breakfast. The pancakes were light and fluffy and thankfully not over sweet. The all American breakfast was good and had the right components. However the burger was great and the had cut fried were phenomenal. Fourth, the service was very good. The wait staff was nice and the food came out quickly.
In sum, you definitely need to try this spot and add it as a go to...
Read moreI come here fairly often and the food is good, but I mostly go there for coffee on quick runs. Today I sat down with my little one, and I had the worst customer service. I got a caramel cappuccino and unfortunately it wasn’t what I expected, what I got didn’t have any foam and the milk was burnt. I informed Jake that I didn’t enjoy the coffee and it wasn’t what I asked for, I was in a rush so I kindly asked him to just pack the food to go and bring me the check. When he brought the check I just asked him to please remove the coffee from the bill due to my unsatisfied experience. He said “well, the ladies over there seemed to enjoy it” and I said “okay, but I didn’t, could you just please remove it off the bill?” And he rudely responded “ well that sounds like a personal problem, you asked for it and you have to pay for it, this is a business and it costs us money” oh my dear, if they keep you working there with that horrible experience you give to customers, that business will loose more than a cup of coffee (which I still payed for btw lol) I don’t like to make a scene so I thanked him and walked out. Please jake find a job that makes you happy so you don’t take it out on customers at the restaurant and cost them their...
