The Barrel — Restaurant in West Chicago Township

This place usually caters to a certain crowd of individuals that frequent this establishment. With this slum version of "Cheers" type of atmosphere it can make new people feel ignored (more by the bartender than by other patrons) or not part of some inside joke. On the upside, it is right at two different types of public transportation: the bus and the L. If you're driving I believe that you have to pay for it along the street and finding parking within one block of this bar can be difficult during the popular times to go to a pub. Moreover, the drinks are not too expensive but I think they are too pricey for this not so classy hole in the wall. I do know several people who frequent this place often as a meeting spot to start their evening before going somewhere else. So if all you want is to sit down and grab a quick beer or other drink this is your place but do not expect to socialize since most of the people who frequent this establishment already know each other for the most part. I think that they have a bathroom but don't quote me on this and it would be for paying patrons only. They do not allow smoking inside so there is often a crowd of people sitting on the step to the entrance smoking cigarettes, so if that is something that bothers you-...

Love this place. The owner and the barkeeps are wonderful people. You can order your food in as they don't serve food. Also a couple of Taco Joints nearby. Next door to the Pink Line. Awesome Beer Selection. Beer in rotation too, so you get new stuff every week. Funnily named Cocktails. Good Music. The number of Flatscreens is only 3-4, so you won't get ALL the games, but the local game is always on. One extra point, all Beer on tap is local, microbrewed stuff only. A generous selection of botled and canned beer rounds out the selection. A decent selection of spirits too. Owner likes to carry American made spirits mostly, so a lot of bourbon and Koval etc. Not too much European stuff like Scotch and Cognac.Also no Wine to speak of, but who the hell wants to drink wine in a dive bar. Kinda of a hole in wall . bartenders pretend to be artisans in mixed drinks. Beer selection average. Would recommend harbees for great selection.. Just average like a young guy martins corner. Owner has blocked spanish and rap music because it bring a certain kind of people around. Ask him about it in spanish... On a side note if you post photos on google the staff has them removed.
