The only reason Iām not giving this place a lower rating is because it is family owned business and reviews are powerful.
With that being said i hope this serves as constructive criticism.
I came to chicago for fourth of July weekend and our very first stop for breakfast was victor bueno which was recommended on my Tik tok FYP.
Lesson learned. The concept of carne asada tacos is awesome and definitely something that caught my eye. As soon as you walk in, you notice the small space and also the overwhelming amount of smoke due to the grill being right next to the dining area. The smell of cooked meat is distinguishable as soon as you come into the restaurant. The only thing that sits between you ( the customer and the kitchen/ grilling area) is a counter and transparent glass so you can easily see what the chef is cooking. It started painting itself as a true hole in the wall restaurant unfortunately all the ingredients were there but they missed on their food :(
You choose where to sit and with such limited space, sitting next to another party is unavoidable which is fine and not a deal breaker. I support small businesses like these!
The loud sound of grilling is also very noticeable.
We waited a while before a server came to take our order and the restaurant felt busy and understaffed. I ordered the arrachera tacos The tacos were not what i expected. The meat was too chewy, unflavored, and uninspired. Disappointing that they were not as good as they looked!
Was looking for better seasoning and more tender meat.
I love arrachera carne asada meat and for that reason i may come back to give them a second try.
I really hope next time they deliver their true potential and vision which i know is hidden somewhere ready...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI saw Victor Bueno on IG and just had to go. Dropped in on a Tuesday. They were super busy. How much of that is due to them being closed on Mondays, I donāt know. Anyway, got a seat in the small back part of this already tiny place. I loved the family dynamic of the place.
Family-owned places in Chicago are often the best part of Chicago. Quickly ordered 2 Arrachera Tacos, one order of Papas and an Arrachera Quesadillas. I think the Arrachera Tacos are totally worth the $5 each. But they are a little tough. I am not sure this is normal or if it was due to the crowd and need to rush. They come on El Milagro Corn tortilla (Awesome) with rice and beans underneath. I will tell you thisā¦I do not know what they put in their beans, but those things were DELISCIOUS. I like rice and beans but theirs are a whole next level.
The Quesadillas kicked ass. It was cheesy and well cooked. Not tough either which leads me to believe the meat on the taco was tough because they were rushing to fill orders to go. Itās all good.
The service is a bit slow but be patient. Cash only sucks too and they don't have an ATM on site. However, This place was great and I definitely want more of those beans next to another Quesadillas. A great find. Much success to this family. Remember to follow...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSUCKS. Simple. All The hype on social media for nothing. Iām going to get straight to the point. The arrachera was probably the worst Iāve ever had. It was like chewing through plastic (not even joking), meat had absolutely no flavor and it was just hard to chew and swallow. Iām not sure where the hype came from but this place unfortunately is not it. Service was pretty slow because of how busy they are and they only have 1 waitress taking orders and running around like a headless chicken. I will say the rice and beans were good and tasted very authentic like grandmas recipe. The place looks very runned down with tables and chairs just scrambled all over to fit as many people as they can. Overall a very unpleasant experience to say the least and not worth $48 for 2 arrachera dinners. If youāre looking for something similar with better flavor, I recommend El Milagro. And remember, looks...
