It's sad to see the decline of what is an iconic restaurant in our area. There was a time when Maurice's BBQ and sauce were sold at grocery stores throughout, at least the state. I can't say for sure how far their reach was. They also had new restaurants popping up all the time. Most of those seem to be closed now. The iconic original is a shell of the place it was. Looking through the drive thru window made me wonder about the grade on the door. The sauce hasn't changed. Still absolutely delicious, however, they put almost no sauce on the meat, which simply tasted of melted pork fat. The pulled pork, or chopped as we used to call it, wasn't picked through properly and was full of undesirable parts, and the "extra" sauce they give you is in a almost comically small container. I didn't try, but I'm sure I would have been told that bottles of sauce are available for purchase if I had requested more. Possibly a couple more thimble size cups. I know members of this family personally. Guys, clean the home location, coat the BBQ with sauce after triple checking the quality & return to your roots & rebrand as the grandkids of our ol' BBQ buddy. I know the Bessingers haven't forgotten how to smoke a ham. Raising prices & trying to sell bottles of sauce isn't going to work. No politics, that's the past now. Friendly, generous, family and community centered service is the path to...
Read moreEverything is overpriced. I got the pulled pork tray and it’s one of the basic take out trays with a big section, and two smaller, side sections. For $12 (plus tax) I got two sides and the pulled pork. They put a small scoop of pork into one of the smaller sections, the okra I ordered in the other small section, and then the Mac and cheese went in the biggest section. For the price I was definitely expecting a larger helping of the pulled pork but after trying it, I guess I’m glad I was given a smaller portion. They ask you what kind of barbecue sauce you want at the window which doesn’t matter because the meat is already drowning in the mustard based sauce when you get it. My mother makes better pulled pork in her crock pot with the McCormick seasoning packets. I had to spend another $4 to get a drink, which is outrageous. After tax, my total was near $17. On top of all this, even though I went through the drive thru, the receipt still had a line to leave a tip. Maybe if I dined inside and had a server, leaving a tip would’ve made sense. Definitely don’t recommend and I don’t see myself going back to a place like this when I can get better service for the same cost at any other...
Read moreThe Hubs and I were pleasantly surprised with our visit today! We came in for the buffet that was advertised on the highway, but learned that there is no buffet on Monday or Tuesday. The girls at the register were so friendly though that we decided to stay anyway!
I had a grilled chicken salad... there was a nice mix of fresh veggies including spinach and delicious tomatoes (perfectly ripe and so yummy!) topped with freshly grilled, hot, juicy chicken and two hush puppies. For $5.99 it was a very nice size salad, and I left feeling full and satisfied!
The Hubs ordered the 1/3 pound burger basket which included fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies for about $8. One bite into the burger, he knew he'd made an excellent choice! The burger was thick, juicy, and cooked to perfection.
We decided we would definitely be stopping to dine at Maurice's again....and maybe next time we'll try some of their famous BBQ! Yes, we stopped there for BBQ, but the menu had sooooooo many appealing options... this is certainly a place where anyone could find something to enjoy (We did sample the sauces, and those ARE quite delicious.... the hot sauce has a very nice sweet flavor that definitely makes you...
