I am a disabled person. I use a service dog to be independent. My dog was not disruptive, he was at my side. While I was looking at the jelly bean dispenser a worker approached me. Now looking back I think it was the owner. She said is that a service dog and I responded yes. She then asked for āpapersā. Service dog do not have papers.
Here are quotes from the ADA
Q7. What questions can a covered entity's employees ask to determine if a dog is a service animal? A. In situations where it is not obvious that the dog is a service animal, staff may ask only two specific questions: (1) is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and (2) what work or task has the dog been trained to perform? Staff are not allowed to request any documentation for the dog, require that the dog demonstrate its task, or inquire about the nature of the person's disability.
Q8. Do service animals have to wear a vest or patch or special harness identifying them as service animals? A. No. The ADA does not require service animals to wear a vest, ID tag, or specific harness.
Q10. Can a person bring a service animal with them as they go through a salad bar or other self-service food lines? A. Yes. Service animals must be allowed to accompany their handlers to and through self-service food lines. Similarly, service animals may not be prohibited from communal food preparation areas, such as are commonly found in shelters or dormitories.
CERTIFICATION AND REGISTRATION
Q17. Does the ADA require that service animals be certified as service animals? A. No. Covered entities may not require documentation, such as proof that the animal has been certified, trained, or licensed as a service animal, as a condition for entry.
There are individuals and organizations that sell service animal certification or registration documents online. These documents do not convey any rights under the ADA and the Department of Justice does not recognize them as proof that the dog is a service animal.
She continued to tell me sheād get in trouble with her health inspector still not believing my dog was a service dog. The way she talked was dehumanizing. Due to having to wear a mask, my feeding tube was hidden so I think she assumed I wasn't disabled. Please educate yourself on service dog laws before harassing a customer. I was excited to get some fudge but I no longer felt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStopped by on my way to the airport to go back to Arizona because the web site said that they had Dutch Letters and, unfortunately, a trip to Pella wasn't in the cards for this short visit. My brother tried to tell me that if they had them, they would be $4 or $5 each. I was certain he must be mistaken, but he still lives in Iowa and I haven't for nearly twenty years, so I steeled myself for disappointment and reinforced myself with a tasty taco before I swung over.
Nan's Nummies had Dutch Letters, and they were less than $3 each! I asked for half a dozen, she offered me some frozen in the back. All the better to survive the flight without my eating them all, I said!
Since I mentioned the flight, she offered a nice box to pack them in. I accepted, I put them in my checked bag, nestled snugly next to my laptop. Luckily, TSA did not help themselves and I was the family hero upon my return to Arizona. Everyone loves a good Dutch Letter.
Though it was never stated, the fact that she had them frozen makes me think she gets them from one of the bakeries in Pella. Good stuff, I will definitely stop by again on my next hurried...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place is a great asset to the Valley Junction Community. The candy and chocolate selections are very good with fair pricing. The cookies....that's another story, they are hard and are lacking much personality. I basically come here on occasion for the salted nut roll bars and the puff pillows (which are sweeter than sweet). I would purchase their flavored kettle korn if they came down on pricing a bit. $7.00 for a microwave bag-size. Ouch! The reason for my 2 star review is because of the personality of the owner (or whom I believe to be the owner). She is very unfriendly and hard to talk to without feeling like she has to dominate the conversation. Not easy going at all. You walk in and before you take 1 step inside she bellows 'can i help you' almost in a tone like 'What are you doing here?' Which is so different than many of the other shop owners down 5th street where they welcome you with warmth and allow you to explore at your own leisure. Not enough to fully stop my business (because I have more than 1 sweet tooth), but it could be so...
