Pulled in hoping a for good meal on a hot Sunday afternoon around 1:30. The aroma of good smoked bbq filled my nose, and I grew more excited for my upcoming eats. My wife ordered turkey.. "sorry we're out" ordered chicken "sorry we only have enough for tacos or nachos, not enough for a sandwich" I began to scratch my head in confusion. My dad ordered a loaded baked potato. "Let me check and see if we have any... ok we have 2 left" I look at my watch and my phone to make sure they are the same, and I didn't time warp to their closing time. Nope.. still just 1:30pm. Wife ordered "sliced" brisket and 2 sides, my son a bbq sandwich place, daughter a brisket plate, and father a loaded baked potato. We ordered a order of redneck nachos to share. Head to the drink station..Lemonade container..empty. Iced tea container..so low I had to tip it forward to get the last bit out of it.. you know that bitter bottom of the container taste.. yup.. that's it. Blah! Out comes the food pulled pork was ok..had better..had worse. Baked potato was good. Baked beans..straight from the can. Something that be jazzed up so easily.. blah.. Mac & Cheese.. more like wet noodles in yellow tasteless sauce. Now the slaw. The slaw is on point. I am a slaw snob and it was really good. Good texture, taste, 10/10. The Redneck Nachos.. super skimpy on the meat. For $13, I expected more than chips, nachos cheese, and and a scatter of meat. Now for the coup de grâce... the brisket. We specifically asked for 1lb of "SLICED" brisket. The cashier could have easily said "we don't have sliced, or we don't do sliced brisket", but no such happened. To my wife (who is on a super strict diet and cannot have bread, chips, etc opened her box of food and immediately closed it in disgust. You know when you are in a restaurant and order sweet tea and they bring you unsweet tea and you don't realize it till you take that first long drink on a really hot day... yea..that's the look she had. So we tell the server, "Hey, we asked for sliced brisket not chopped" and the reply blew my mind.. "We'll that's how it comes" No offer to fix it, no offer to take it off. Just walks away.. Now, this place wasn't busy There was one one family that came in after us, and no one was here when we got here. Not saying they hadn't been busy before us, but maybe if you know there is a large event in town, maybe they should be better prepared for volume, and ensure your staff knows your menu and how food is prepared. Food 5/10, Service 3/10. Not worth...
Read moreI'm not sure what others think is real BBQ if they give this place 4+ stars. We were there around 12:30, so the height of lunchtime. Our first indication should've been the single table of 3 diners, and they didn't appear to be particularly pleased. The decor and our own desire for good BBQ made us oblivious, and we charged right in ready to love the place.
My wife had the brisket sandwich, mac-n-cheese, and green beans. There was ample brisket, but it was dried out and dripped grease. It didn't seem to be seasoned at all. The mac-n-cheese were nice big plump mac noodles but served with a greasy paste and no flavor of cheese. The green beans were over cooked and reminded us of a school cafeteria - even so, they were the best part of her meal.
The menu was very enticing, and against my normal diet (I don't handle fat well) I ordered the Bull Fries - french fries smothered in brisket, cheese, and topped with scallions and sour cream(?). The fries were crisp and very well seasoned, but I had the same flavorless, dried out, insult-to-the-cow-that-gave-its-life brisket. The cheese sauce tasted like it was out of a big can (i.e. ballgame nacho cheese).
In all, my wife thinks I'm being very charitable giving them 2 stars for the food.
The gent behind the counter (there appeared to be a single employee) neither smiled nor indicated he was happy to see us - even though there was virtually no business on a Tuesday lunch. The decor is spot on, the menu imaginatively presented, and the sauces at each table were moderately good.
We're on vacation. If we lived in the area,...
Read moreI was in this restaurant today(5/04/2022) around 4pm. The food was good, the young girl that took our order was very sweet and all smiles,I felt really bad for her she was working great by herself, but then there were another woman older then her came out and yanked this pan out of here hand very unprofessional like and just walked back to the back like it was nothing. But me myself wanted to say something to that woman that she was old enough not to act that way. I was very disappointed in the actions of that woman, it hurt my feelings and I know it did that young girls feelings. To the young girl you did a great job and you were very sweet and nice to your customers and the other woman should take some...
