It's probably a good thing for my waist line that I didn't find out about Baker's Bench sooner: their baked goods are to die for! They sell a variety of pastries, including almond and chocolate croissants, cheese and fruit Danishes, cinnamon buns (made with their croissant dough), and their famous creme horns. Their other pastries are good (especially that croissant filled with almond paste), but the creme horn is excellent and the BEST creme horn I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and get several of these creme horns, because they are even good the next day! Parking is tricky, so be patient and try to go at an odd time. They don't seem to have a website or social media presence, but as of May 26, 2023 they are open Tues - Sat, 7 - 2 or 3 pm.
Update August 2024: These continue to be the BEST pastries. They have forever ruined other creme horns, because their creme horns made from that delicate and delicious croissant dough is absolutely perfect. Our dog was even jealous of the creme horns! Baker’s Bench chicken pot pies are preternaturally consistent in the deliciousness of their flaky crust and flavorful filling. Often in today’s challenging world, when one requires the simple support of reliable comfort food, the “chicken pot pie” hawked by lesser talented establishments will seduce would-be customers with the illusion of a full pie, but like a disingenuous grifter, include a mere thin crust as only a top (the facade of a pie) with thin gravy and an “Oliver Twist workhouse meager portion” of chicken. Thankfully, our world includes the virtuous people at Baker’s Bench. They understand the need for the full pie experience (bespoke, handmade, delicious crust on the top, bottom and sides), paired with reassuringly, reliably satisfying filling. Delicate pastry, baked to perfection and filling was both generous and delicious. They certainly don't hold back- everything is oversized here! The cream puff was filled with real cream and true custard- best I've had in an age. Cream horns are what took me there, and they are enormous and lived up to the word on the street!
