It's been awhile since I've been to Can't Believe it's Vegan, and today, I remembered why. Since I'm unable to call in and ask questions, or to be able to place the order over the phone with a live person, I drove 30 minutes from my house, to come in, and ask the lady before me questions about the menu that (I see on the receipt her name is Sachiko) Sachiko was unable to answer, and the cook was unavailable to answer me as well. The question was simply, is the same ingredients in the bbq jackfruit sandwich the same as the bbq ribs? She did not know, couldn't find no one to answer me. Not much personality, just doing her job. While I was waiting, I noticed the baked goods. There's a Thrilla Vanilla cupcake that I like the name. Reminds me of the Thrilla in Manilla, Mr. Mohammed Ali. Aaaaayyyyeeee. I also noticed hand soaps, and nicely packaged items there by Mrs. B, not the caterer, but another Mrs. B who makes fragrance free, non allergic things from soaps, scrubs, lotions, carper freshener, and a lot more. I did go into the bathroom just to wash my hands, and test the products for myself. Mrs. B's soap smells clan and fresh, and lathers up really good. Her lotion is fragrance free as well, and thick. Let me tell you, my hands being soft as a baby's bottom was the most impressive experience at I Can't Believe it's Vegan. Surprisingly the face, the representative of the restaurant knew nothing about that either, and it was not her 1st day at work. I already asked. She appeared very disinterested in anything except collect payment, hand my food with a smile. I am also very disappointed. My bbq jackfruit sandwich was burnt all the way around. It had a burnt bbq taste. What a wasted $22.00 I promise, I won't be back. Well, maybe to buy some of Mrs B's products, get her card, and have a conversation with her about my experience. Bet she will listen to this critic, who does food, and service reviews all over Central Ohio. I was very disappointed!!!
9-8-25, I regret to report the follow up to this story. Today, I actually came back to speak to the owner/manager as 2 adults regarding what happened yesterday, in hopes to hash things out. His representative was there today, and was not being forthright exactly about what took place yesterday. I was cool headed, however, the owner sadly was not the same. He was very loud with me, yelling at me in front of another customer only referencing to the 1 star that I gave in my review yesterday. No cares about my side of the story, or to even show concern for the customer, or desire to repair the situation even when I offered to talk it out. But when I said that I had a previous bad experience, it was with him quite awhile ago. I don't hold anger and animosity against people, because everyone has a bad day on occasion. No one is perfect. At least, I was being an adult, and trying to reason at no avail because he put me out of his establishment. The bad thing is, I never came in with disrespect of any kind intended as the business owner who have been serving the community for 33 years. Had he put his anger and personal feelings to the side, he could have discovered a change or updated positive review. One thing I do agree with him about is,...
Read moreI dined inside this place once and observed the owner greeting other patron's at their table but avoided mine. However, his staff was available if I got up and went to the register for utensils or napkins that were not included when my meal was brought to me. The second time I patronized this establishment I ordered my meal to-go and was given great service but the staff at the register charged me extra for a premium side when, at the time, there wasn't anything that stated that a different side would be a $3 up-charge for less than an ounce of macaroni and cheese in a clear condiment cup. I was offered fries to make up for the omission but I did not want fries. I felt bad for the staff worker because he did not know that he didn't properly cancel part of the order and caused the owner to make another meal and he was chewed out for it which was uncomfortable to watch. I tried to return two times after that in which the owner saw me, did not greet me, went to the back and never came to the counter after waiting over 10 minutes to be served. I tried the spicy sausage which was a bit on the dry side but had potential and I cannot remember the other dish I tried. I didn't find anything particularly tasty and planned to return to try to find an option on the menu that I liked since they have an extensive menu. The fries tasted like seasoned fries but it did not come together cohesively and was a little bit dry. I wouldn't consider this a healthy vegan place -- if you want healthy options Portia's Cafe is a great place. If you want similarly priced American style vegan food that is consistent in flavor you could check out Vida's Plant Based Butcher, 4th and State, Loving Hut and Woodhouse Vegan to name a few. Some of the restaurants I named have lower prices than what you will find here. Although not fully vegan but deserves honorable mention for their very flavorful high quality vegan/vegetarian dishes - SOW Plated. Hope this helps. Happy healthy eating with...
Read moreThis used to be one of my favorite places, but after my recent visit, I’m extremely disappointed.
Before going, I did what any normal person would do — I looked up the hours online and also checked the hours posted on their door. Both clearly state they close at 9:00 PM on Saturdays. I even called to place an order but was reminded they don’t take phone orders, only online (which makes modifying an order difficult). Since I had time, I decided to drive over, knowing I’d arrive no later than 8:30 PM.
When I got there, I waited in line, only to be told by the cashier (who was kind) that they were closed. Confused, I pointed out that both the door sign and Google say 9 PM, not 8:30. I asked to speak with a manager, and that’s when things went downhill.
The owner came out and was shockingly rude. No apology, no understanding, just arrogance. He insisted his personal website said 8:30 PM and acted like it was my fault for not checking it — even though most customers rely on Google, phone calls, or the hours posted on the door. He then said the restaurant technically stays open until 9, but only for people who want desserts. That makes absolutely no sense — people aren’t driving across town at 8:30 at night just for dessert. If the kitchen closes at 8:30, then the posted hours should reflect that. Either change the sign and online hours to say 8:30 PM or actually keep your doors open and fully operating until 9:00 PM. The current setup is misleading and unfair to customers.
To make matters worse, after I left and got in my car (again, I never threatened him or caused a scene), the owner came outside and took a video of my license plate. That was not only unprofessional but also unsettling.
It’s unfortunate, because I’ve always enjoyed the food here. But this experience showed me the owner does not value customers’ time or provide even basic customer service. Good food can only take a business so far if the owner treats...
