Had one waitress seat us. Another take our order. I ordered Grilled Ribeye daily Special. Fries. Salad, coffee. Came with some oily (?) Zucchini. So, we ALL got our meals at the same time, which was Great. Waitress asked if we needed anything else... We seemed to be all set... Then, we NEVER saw her again until my friend had to flag her down for the check. So, getting back to the meal. I ordered my ribeye Medium well, told her More on the WELL SIDE, A LITTLE PINK OK... she said ok. Ends of steak, lots of pink, get to the middle, VERY PINK AND COLD. NOW, the steak being on the THIN SIDE, I'm sure it didn't take long to cook it. I noticed there wasn't ANY JUICE from the steak, on the plate, but oil from the soaked zucchini. The Fries were good, but I noticed I got less than half for my side compared to my friend received with her Burger. My other friend ordered Scalloped potatoes and bragged about them, and asked waitress to remind her she wanted an order to go (of the potatoes). Being a diabetic, I needed to eat ASAP. Since the waitress NEVER came back to check on us, I didn't send my steak back to get finished cooking. Now, we were the ONLY 3 in the Restaurant (on the side we sat on, anyway). I cut off all the fat about 1/4-1/3 of the steak and brought it home for my dog. Coffee was VERY strong, also. My friend that wanted to be reminded to order some scalloped potatoes, declined when waitress asked her. When we were leaving I asked her why she changed her mind about potatoes. She said They were VERY dry and not as good as they usually are. Hmm, I was impressed that THIS restaurant was once the Town's Post Office. I didn't complain because I was being treated, so I just ate and dealt with it. I wouldn't make a special trip to go there again, unless, I was being treated again. I wouldn't order...

Beautiful building but man is this food under seasoned, overpriced and flat. The place is a time capsule. This helps the atmosphere (it’s beautiful) but I can’t say the same for the food, it’s just so lifeless and tasteless.

I had the club sandwich which was fine but I could make a significantly better sandwich for half the price at home. The Alfredo pasta was very amateur. I’d suggest they either learn how to season a proper rue or just use canned sauce and drop the price. I’ve never had to salt my pasta that’s covered in a cream sauce. I brought it home, re heated it and re seasoned it and it was better but still kinda sad. The side salad was just this sad little pile of vegetables because restaurants never put effort into them, so they always just get thrown out. Seems kinda wasteful.

The brownie for dessert was just over sweet. When we have amazing bakers in town like Chrissy Gs so there’s no excuse to be honest.

Service was great, hardworking folks. No complaints only thumbs up.

I think I will say the fact that this spot is open late, open on Sunday and is absolutely gorgeous carry it. Probably just go for drinks at the bar and skip dinner, it’s not worth it in a town with much better...

Business has every replication of operating under apartheid except for the "whites only" sign when you come in. Visited on a weeknight and after finding my way around had a seat at the bar. Immediately noticed a burst of micro-aggression from the white waiter and the white bartender we'll call ID Adam. After the waiter gave him the nod, Adam abruptly came over asking for some ID. Of course in his mind a young black male would have a fake ID, so Adam says he'll have to take it to his manager to scan it in. An awkward amount of time passes before permit Patty comes back with my very real ID and abruptly says so what are you having? About this time I realize I'm the only person of color in this business but resort to get the food and beverage I came in for. Only when a white friend came in to join me did ID Adam warm up one degree. Nonetheless I noticed Adam didn't require any ID from my white friend or any other of the Caucasian patrons that came in. Perhaps we can thank President Trump and his nationalist rhetoric for allowing this bull to continue in the open in 2018... #ripMLKjr #ripseanbell #riptrayvonmartin...

A decent restaurant with decent food, though in my view the Tavern is about the quintessential generic American nice-ish sit down restaurant. Still worth a visit if convenient. The french onion soup was the standout dish, it is one of the best I have had, and we tend to order french onion at every restaurant that has it. Other dishes were decent but not anything amazing. Chicken parm was typical, fish was good. The side salads were not great, some of the lettuce was wilty. Portion sizes are pretty good and the chicken parm was quite large. The environment inside is nice, though we were in the room without the bar both rooms seemed well decorated and pleasant. Our waitress was excellent and service was prompt. Overall would be stuck between 3 and 4 stars perhaps, but the french onion soup was very good and made the decision easy.

Went on Valentines night without reservations, there was no seating in the dining hall. Had to sit at the bar. Service was slow. Place was parked. Food was 'meh.' Got Veal Fransaice. The serving size was ridiculously large!Looked like the whole baby calf on my plate.🫣 Pasta was too al dente. My friend had chicken fransaice. She enjoyed it but couldn't finish it either. The chowder soup was to die for though!😋😋 I wish there could be more parking in the front, or a back entrance for patrons parked in the back. The walk from the back parking lot to the front entrance in 40mph frigid winter winds, is enough to wanna never return in the winter. I'll return in the summer and hopefully ill have better experience overall to share.🫠😇

Lunch menu best deal we’ve seen in New England at this cool, family friendly spacious bar restaurant set in a former post office. See the pix! Staff are quick and very gracious, the staff even went and dug up an extension cord so we could charge our eBikes. Good comfort food with generous portions and the baked scrod with crab and shrimp breading came with a side salad, side spaghetti and side ratatouille was under $14, an unheard of good deal these days. Great beer selection too with regional breweries represented along with the undrinkable national brands. Very good apple crisp for dessert.
