Exceptional hidden gem! I ordered one dozen bagels on-line, last evening, for a 7:30 am pickup today. The package was ready for my pick-up right on time!
This was my first time at Comfort Bagel. I have heard good things about the bagels and it did not hurt that I also had a gift card that had been sitting around for a while. Upon picking up my bag from the rack area (to the immediate left of the entrance), I could tell the bagels were going to be great. It was a reassuring heavy for one dozen bagels. You knew there would be substance to the product. The smell was wonderful in the location and the two gentlemen working this morning greeted me, welcomed me, and I felt genuinely "at home." One of the staff rushed over to find my bag from the many others. What a help and I appreciated it greatly. I proceeded to my car and I could not wait to get home. WOW! I ordered all asiago parmesan bagels (my favorite anywhere, by FAR!). In any case, they were warm, the right amount of chewy, while crusty on the outside. There was a great deal of cheese on them and you knew the cheese was of superb quality compared to the ones you would buy at a local supermarket or one of the major donut chains. The bagels are, night and day, the BEST compared to any one of those locations!
It should be noted that it costs $21 for a dozen and $11 for one-half dozen. Even though it sounds like a lot, think about how much you spend when you go to one of the major chains for coffee and one bagel each day? It is well worth the price. It is a special treat for your family, your co-workers, or for special events. The bagels are well worth every penny! Congratulations on this wonderful location! You can be assured I will be back and spread the word.
As an aside, I had never been in the Open Square area in the canal district. I was most impressed with the work that went into the buildings. For a person new to the area, it may be a challenge to find the location; however, it is well worth the search! Take the time to find the entrance and you will be in heaven. This food product so beats the fast food of today! Why go to one of the major chains when you can stop in for bagels or a bagel sandwich. The staff is so welcoming! Make this your next stop! I know it will continue to be mine. Such a great addition to Holyoke! I would give them six stars, or...
Read moreI’m not usually the romantic type but oh my word, I’m actually in love with Comfort Bagel. I don’t usually leave reviews either but, this is called for. Their signature Rosemary is my favorite to buy in bulk and share with friends (although I do love to go in and get one of each because I know it will be a hit. Btw these bagels freeze exceptionally well to have throughout the week. You can literally hear them sizzling in your toaster like magic). Their original flavors are classic & their rotating flavors are creative and well paired. The texture of everything is on point. I’m talking the fluffiest yet doughiest bagels with a gentle but present crunch on the outside. I usually pop in & grab a dozen for my partner and I (actually vice versa because he is the best), but I recently brought a friend in for the dine- in experience and had a French Toast bagel (ermahgawd, yes) with egg, bacon & cheddar which blew my mind. I’m still thinking about it lol. Thick cut bacon over here, fried to a heavenly crisp without being crumbly or chewy. How do they do it???My friend ended up buying another dozen for her family. Oh & let’s talk about their coffee for a sec. Super high grade. They use Monsoon, which is local and actually delicious. They have a nice juice selection as well. MAJOR MAJOR shout out to the staff here— wicked chill, fast & thorough. Always friendly. The building itself is rather pretty. High ceilings, soft lighting and a lot of wood. Every time I visit my mom & sisters I bring a dozen to them with the original cream cheese. This place is a true gem and Holyoke is lucky to have it. I DARE New Jersey & NYC folk to compare, if you know what I mean. (Dear Comfort Bagel, can you please try your hand at pizza?)
Any bagel connoisseur must make the trip to Comfort Bagel (no matter the distance). Any PERSON or Alien must try. Caution: you may desert your current religion/atheism and pray to the Carbohydrate Gods This is truly...
Read moreSo we drove an hour because we were hoping for incredible things. My husband and I travel all over to find the best bagels. To say we are Bagle snobs is an understatement. That being said this experience was very " one note". We ordered two asiago bagels with super scallion cream cheese, a cold brew and a hot coffee. Let's start with the coffee. Nothing special. It was self serve for cream and sugar, which is fine. The selection of flavors syrups were very lack luster and again, the coffee was just an average " throw the bag in the machine" drip coffee. Personal preference: paper straws are terrible. If your willing to use plastic cups and lids maybe give the option of a plastic straw. Again, that's a personal preference, like I agree with saving the turtles and all but paper straws are horrible and plastic cups doesn't promote the eco friendly " green vibe " your going for with the paper straws. Moving on to the bagels. Love how they were wrapped. Upon opening them we found the sloppiest mess of cream cheese that truely did not allow us to enjoy the Bagle as the heat from the Bagle almost liquefied the cream cheese. The mess was unbearable. When we get cream cheese on a bagel we expect it to hold up. The Bagle texture was that of a delicious sour dough bread but nothing more. The crunch I was looking for wasn't there, and again, I was very much focused on the mess. Definitely do not think this was worth the hour drive. The aesthetic was very good. So much could be improved. Customer serve was bland at best. I personally do not think we will return but hoping for good things to come for the company. You have good bones, some very minor improvements could really drive it home....
