Read moreThis place had been on top go list for at least couple years. Finally today was able to stop by and unfortunately have mixed feelings as much as wanted to like it more.
I ordered the ceviche of the Day, clam chowder and the almond Crusted hogfish.
The clam chowder was Amazing and probably one of the best I've had. It was better than the ones in SF. This one was very well balanced and tasted fresh while the portion was adequate it was so good could had bit more.
Next I had the fish which at first glance the portion just seemed much smaller than expected specially for its price. While the fish flavor was subtle and cooked perfectly with right amount of sauce wish the portion would have been bit larger by at least 25%. The fish was placed on top of rice and veggies the carrots were tiny center core carrots which is not intldicative of the price. The broccoli was overcooked.
The last item was the "ceviche of the day" which to be honest it would be better not on the menu. Bland flavor that was no fresh shrimp, was precooked frozen shrimp at least it seemed to due to being so bland and having no flavor. There was not an ounce of citrus. The portion was So tiny placed on top of a large lettuce leaf which at least was not shredded I to the ceviche. Instead of ordering ceviche you're better off with the chowder at half the price.
Kailey provided exceptional service. Food was prepped and served quickly. Fortunately the only meal that I assum was cooked upon order was cooked correctly. Service and timeliness was great but unfortunately as mentioned there were a few details with the quality of...
Read moreService and atmosphere were good, though I'll admit we did eat here outside of lunch hours on a workday. The food didn't wow me as much as it did my sister-in-law and husband. They both ate here before and love this place, but they have a much wider palette than I when it comes to seafood. I can really only eat shrimp, softshell crab, and lobster.
It was a bit early for surf 'n' turf, so I went with the lobster bisque soup and Louisiana shrimp basket. The lobster bisque wasn't hot and had a thick skin on the top as they brought it to the table. I kept trying to mix it back in, but the bisque quickly became sludgy, and it desperately needed something to thin it out. I took the rest to go and doctored it up with butter at home.
The shrimp basket was fine. The batter was a little heavier than I like, not bad, but my favorite place for this dish is Yorkshire down on 72nd & Pecos, and they've mastered that tempura-like batter over decades.
My biggest complaint is how they use Heinz for their house malt vinegar instead of something far more respectable, like Three Monks. Come on, guys. That stuff is weeeeaaak. It is a small nitpick, but it's a bit sus that you have to ask for it. This is a seafood restaurant. Why isn't malt vinegar at every table?
They also didn't have any desserts I particularly wanted, so it was a bit annoying watching my two meal companions scarf down their key lime parfaits like a couple of pigs. Overall I'm not enthusiastic about returning and I'll let this be my husband and...
