Bánh Mì from Vua Banh Bao – Westminster, CA
As someone who's traveled extensively between Paris and Los Angeles—and even spent time working in Paris—I’ve developed a deep appreciation for a well-crafted baguette. So when I say that the bánh mì from Vua Banh Bao in Westminster ranks among the best I’ve ever had, that’s not said lightly.
I recently tried their Bánh Mì Heo Quay (roast pork) and Bánh Mì Đặc Biệt (the house special), and both were absolute standouts. What immediately struck me was the bread: perfectly crisp on the outside, yet light and airy inside. It transported me back to mornings at a local Parisian boulangerie—where getting a fresh, hot baguette was a daily ritual. It’s rare to find that level of craftsmanship outside of France, let alone in a humble bánh mì shop tucked away in Little Saigon.
The fillings were just as impressive. The roast pork had a deeply savory flavor with crackling skin, balanced by pickled vegetables, fresh herbs, and a light smear of pâté. Every bite was layered with texture and flavor, a true testament to how bánh mì can be both simple and sophisticated.
Vua Banh Bao clearly takes pride in their craft. If you’re in Westminster and want a bánh mì that honors both its Vietnamese roots and French influence, this spot is a must-visit. Trust me—I've had many, and this one is...
Read moreThey advertised Bánh Mì Thịt BOGO all over social media for their grand opening, and again this Friday (6/20/25).
They did the exact same thing at their previous grand opening—they ran out of food by 10:30 AM, even though people had been waiting in line for hours.
If it only happened once, we could understand. But this is the second time they’ve done the exact same thing. That means it’s no accident — they’re intentionally wasting customers’ time by getting people to wait in line for 30 minutes to an hour, only to be told they’re out of the Bánh Mì Thịt they heavily promoted.
It feels like a dishonest and shady tactic just to pull more people into the store. It’s misleading and unfair.
Let’s all leave reviews on Google and Yelp so they learn to respect their customers and don’t keep doing this.
How do you run out of what you promoted by...
Read moreI like this place for many reasons. Their store is spacious and bright, their food is of good quality and their bánh bao (ball-shaped bun containing meat or non-meat) is delicious and their staff has a great attention to detail.
What impressed me on different visits was the genuine care that they have on how their food is served. They would ask me if I wanted my bánh bao heated for immediate eating for the best taste. They would inform me that their bánh mì was over baked so they offered to make a new batch, to which I declined and insisted on looking at the over-bake bread. It turns out it was perfect with a crisp golden color on top.
They don't mess around with their food.
On Thanksgiving day, I saw a stack of 100's of food boxes that they made to pass out to the local hungry &...
