This review is specifically for the coffee shop part of the restaurant, called Bayou Beanery.
It's a nice place to get some coffee or frozen treats, in an area that doesn't have many options nearby. Also, I found the staff to be friendly and accommodating. The 2nd time I went, I accidentally came in after their closing time. The door happened to be open, and I walked in, not knowing they close an hour early on Fridays. They still took my order and everything, so that was very kind.
They do have an actual espresso machine. I felt the need to say that because a lot of places that don't specialize in coffee will put "latte," "cappuccino," etc. on their menu when the drinks aren't really espresso drinks at all. As far as I can tell, this shop is at least attempting to offer real espresso beverages.
The rest of my review is going to be critical, but mainly for the purpose of providing feedback that I hope will help them improve. The couple times that I went were during their opening week, so I understanding that they are trying something new and maybe still finding their footing.
My friend ordered a cappuccino, and there was no foam on it at all. When it was being made, I could hear the steam wand screeching (a sure sign that the barista is not aerating the milk).
My other friend ordered a strawberry smoothie, which their menu claims is made with ice cream. I've never heard of a smoothie being made from ice cream. That sounds more like a milkshake to me, but hey, "a rose by any other name . . ." right? And I'm never gonna hate on ice cream. But my friend tasted it and said that it was watery and not very creamy or flavorful. Sad day for her, sad day for ice cream. :(
Both times that I went, I got a frappe. The guy who took my order kept calling it a "Frappuccino," which is a Starbucks trademark, so they may want to be careful with that. The taste was decent, but not what I expected. The coffee taste is very weak. Come to find out, they make it with some kind of coffee powder, which is deceptive marketing because their menu says it's made with an "espresso shot."
They have an espresso machine, so I'm not sure why they don't use it for the frappes. But I think they should either a) Make them with real espresso shots, or b) Change the wording on their menus and marketing materials.
I hope this feedback can help them improve. They seem like good folks who work there, and I want them to succeed. I plan to give them more chances in the future. If you're looking for a high end coffee shop, this is not the place for that. But as a local place for people who work nearby to get an afternoon pick-me-up, it has...
Read moreAwesome place!! Hard to spot, but definitely a treasure! Just beware the alligator. Atmosphere was very inviting and had a great vibe. (Currently Mardi gras themed decor) Got to meet the owner who gave us great service, the caramel macchiato cold foam she recommended was definitely the right choice. Had the bayou burrito, couldn't finish it, it was so big, so delicious though. The jalapeno really brought it together for me. We also had a loaded English muffin, also scrumptious. Fluffy cheesy eggs, yum!! To top it off, shared a white chocolate mocha iced coffee with the caramel macchiato cold foam. Sadly, it was to good to be sharing, one was not gonna be enough it was so good I had to ask for another. The cold foam could have been served by itself it was so good. So many things that would be great on. (The mini pies, for one) Prices were lower than expected for premium food. Definitely my place to go for breakfast when in the area from now on.
Chrys, it was a pleasure, we will be seeing you again!

Read moreJust wanted to check out a new spot to get breakfast. Thanks to google, I found this little gem. It's nestled in a business area, assuming to cater to the goers and comers of the surrounding offices. It's a little weird that there's a food pickup window but no door to the kitchen. The employees have to go outside to go to the kitchen on the other side, but if that works for them, cool. This is also weird because it's a tad bit confusing which door is the entrance to the restaurant. Anyhow, everything else was pretty much what was expected. Average prices, check. Great atmosphere, check. Above average customer service, check. Variety menu, check. As for the food, I wasn't disappointed and thought the proportions were good, but not a fan of the pan sausage. And, while waiting, I did think it took a while, so relax when you come here, there's plenty of games to...
