Mexica (pronounced Meh-SHE-kah) has the ONLY good Mexican food in Westport, Connecticut! This place is not some hipster nonsense. It is the real deal with delicious Mexican food cooked from the heart. I say this as someone who ranks Mexican cuisine as one of my top favorites. The owners formerly owned Westport's Villa Del Sol years ago, and now they are back and better than ever!
You can tell how much passion the owners have for their culture and it truly shines through in their food. You MUST get the guacamole--it is delicious and done right! We also enjoyed the taquiza platter and a molcajete. The salsas that came with the tacos were delicious and the red salsa is for spicy-lovers.
The menu truly has something for everyone with many authentic Mexican dishes, a few Tex-Mex dishes, and even some Latin American and Caribbean dishes. We also really enjoyed the yuca fries and the tostones.
You MUST get the fresca margarita! You have not truly tried a margarita until you have one! Trust me, you will never go back to a regular one after trying this one!
We got take out, but the inside of the restaurant looked truly beautiful and I look forward to eating in the dining room in the future. Proper COVID precautions were taken. The service is friendly. This place is worth coming to from out of town.
Thank you, Mexica, for making my husband's birthday celebration meal great! He is from Mexico originally and...
Read moreMexican food enthusiast! Husband and I decided to try this Mexican Restaurant because of the great reviews given but unfortunately, we were quite disappointed with the food and margarita. We were both greeted very nicely by, I believe the owner of the restaurant followed by a very pleasant male waiter that informed us it was happy hour. We ordered a classic margarita on the rocks, which was extremely tart and not flavorful. I ordered another margarita and asked waiter if he could ask to add more triple sec to the drink. Second drink was better but not great. My husband ordered a bottle beer, you could never go wrong with that! For my dish, I ordered chicken enchiladas with verde (green) sauce, the sauce was extremely salty and the chicken was unseasoned, it was plain pulled chicken wrapped up in a corn tortilla. Waiter was very accommodating and very apologetic, offering another dish. I ordered, chicken fajitas, not salty but unseasoned. My Husband ordered a hamburger which he also was not impressed with. Definitely, not authentic Mexican food, unless it is catering to the location...
Read moreI LOVED this place!!! So much. The food was soooo good, drinks as well. My family and I were treated like family and no, they didn't know us prior to today; everyone is so sweet and attentive. The service provided was superb which I absolutely appreciate and gave me more than 1 reason to return soon. I had the Nachos al Pastor and they were perfectly delicious. I was so grateful that they were so careful and accommodating with my food allergies. The guacamole is the best one I've ever had, and I don't even like avocado (yes, I've eaten plenty of guacamole previously). One of my favorite things was the Dorilocos! OmG, so good and also spicy. Definitely unique, a must try. I also had a Mangoneada (might be spelling it wrong, sorry), this drink is really delicious, it has mango, chamoy and tajín (beware as this drink is not for lightweights lol). Can't wait to go back. If you are in Westport, CT (I live an hour and change away, and do not care about the distance, I will be returning very soon) please do yourself a favor and pass by, try their food and awesome service, because you will...
