True North Kitchen & Bar is an Oasis

It was time for me to try getting out again and I am so grateful I was led by a friend to True North Kitchen and Bar in Weymouth, Massachusetts. The ambience, food and service were beyond exceptional. In fact, I was given so much more than just food.

True North Kitchen and Bar is easy to get to. It is right on 3A in Weymouth, south of the Fore River Bridge, where Kelly’s Landy once was. But make no mistake! There is nothing left that resembles Kelly’s Landing. The address is 159 Bridge Street (3A) and there is plenty of parking.

The atmosphere was warm, friendly, casual and fun, both things desperately needed in these times of change. The owners, Joe and Janet Campbell, have clearly adapted to the new ways of being without being dragged down. Instead, they have embraced change and opened themselves to new and creative ways. That in and of itself is inspiring on many levels. I especially loved the little pamphlet where one scans a QR code for the menu. I mean, that should have happened long before Covid in my mind.

The seating inside was clean and inviting, and the outdoor area was tented with generously spaced tables and warmed by plants, rugs and heaters, when needed. Janet, one of the owners, has placed cascades of her treasured vine geraniums to define the borders giving it color and soul.

The wait staff is friendly, personable, and actually eager to please customers. The menu might seem small to some used to mini-books, but I’d rather a slight menu to one that overreaches into leftovers and old food thank you very much. Bigger and more is not always better. All of the food at True North Kitchen and Bar is made from scratch and it shows.

Owners Janet and Joe Campbell bring oodles of experience. Joe was once the Vice President of Operations at Legal Seafoods for over five years and they were Managing Partners at Cohasset Harbor Restaurant (located at Atlantica) for over 15 years.

Beyond their hospitality comes a sense of comfort knowing that the food served matters. It is hard to put into words, but we almost expected to learn something new from our conversations, or have good stuff imparted just be eating. It is so hard to feel authentically taken care of these days when embarking on little journeys in this new world. Joe and Janet prove that there are still many good things to...

True North serves up True Dishes…

Glad we had reservations, since the bar & resto was full…this was a good sign. Seated right away, we acclimated ourselves within the locals and immediately felt, as first timers, this was the place to be. You could tell all of the folks here were regulars enjoying their time – whether drinks, apps, or a main meals. Truly, we were looking forward to the experience- and it did not disappoint. Starting off with calamari and french fries apps, we were surprised how well-balanced these two turned out – hot, crunchy, perfect amount of heat (you’d be surprised how often this is off-point) - it really set the stage for our mains. And, those did not disappoint… French Onion Short Rib, Nashville Chicken Sandwich, and for our kids, the consummate Butter Pasta – each one of these dishes were delicious as hoped for. Having lived in Nashville for three years, this hot chicken sandwich lived up to its name, both in heat, taste, and presentation. I would drive back to get this sandwich. This however was outdone by the Short Rib dish- well-proportioned and excellent presentation, it is a hidden gem that melts in your mouth and leaves you satisfied. And, of course, everything washed down with tasty New England IPAs.

In all, a surprising find that we would include in our “out-of-the-way little gems” list. We would certainly go back to sample additional items on the menu. Satisfying, homey, and good times. You can’t...

Ate here on Saturday night and it was delicious! We called around 5 to make a last minute reservation for 6:30 and we’re easily accommodated. Sat quickly when we arrived. The place isn’t too large, but they do have a large bar with seating as well. There’s a parking lot which is kind of tight but they have an overflow lot across the street as well! The place was loud with the B’s game on but not to the point where we couldn’t hear each other talk! We ordered the fried pickles and home made potato chips with caramelized onion dip to start. Both were delicious! Batter on the pickles was good, not too thick or too think and the buffalo ranch dipping sauce is what makes it! The homemade potato chips were thin, crispy, and salty and the onion dip was rich but not overpowering with onion flavor. My boyfriend ordered the burger of the month with chorizo and chiles which he said was delicious and cooked just as he ordered. And I got the Detroit style pepperoni pizza. I’ve never had Detroit style, but I loved this! The crispy, cheesy crust was my favorite part. The sauce was slightly spicy, slightly sweet on top, the pepperoni was salty and the dough was soft and chewy. 10/10! Waitress was quick...
