I was so excited about the opening of this restaurant. I will not talk about the hassle just to get a table, when you come in and then you are told " we can't serve you" even though you called in advance and were told to come in. Let's talk about the food: Some of it is very delicious (aka 2 starts) - potato pancakes, mushroom soup, boiled dumplings, herring - all good. But: fried potatoes that we ordered - half was burned, half was not cooked through. Fried dumplings are a joke, you can break your teeth while trying to bite them and yet inside - pink undercooked chicken. We ordered 2 "skovorodki" aka "frying pans", and both were returned. The meat smelled so bad that you could smell it from a mile away. When asked, we were told that it's "spices" and meat is fresh. Well, believe me, no spices smell like a rotten meat, but the dishes were replaced. There were some other minor issues with the food, not worth mentioning, so I guess it's a "hit or miss". Service is good in general, servers were very nice. The only problem is that a server never warned us about the price of alcohol. He warned us that the shot of "karambambulia" is $10.00, which is fine, but he never told us that for HALF (NOT EVEN FULL!) of glass of cheap Georgian wine, Kindzmarauli and Hvanchkara (about $14-25 per bottle in liquor stores) we would be charged $20 and $25 accordingly. No offense, but this wine DOES NOT COST $250.00 per bottle, and let's be honest, this café is not a "high" class establishment to have such pricing in the first place, 10 times mark up on some cheap wine is ridiculous and customers need to be warned in advance. Such a disappointment, I was really looking for a Belarusian place. I hope they will listen to customers and change...
Read moreMy Mother-in-law who is Russian heard about this restaurant from some of her friends. She begged my husband and I to try it on one of our trips to Chicago. The restaurant was easy to find and had ample parking available. We arrived close to 6pm and the place was almost empty. However, given that Russians tend to dine late we didn't mind the emptiness. The waitress brought menu that were written in Russian which for my husband was fine but as I can neither read nor speak Russian it was a problem. I asked for an English menu which clearly did not have everything on it. the Russian menu was a total of 4+ pages while the English menu was 1 double sided page. I ordered Mushroom soup, Chebeuriki and some pork and chicken cutlets. Everything was delicious by the end we were stuffed! Oh an appparently one of the few words of Russian I know (Spaceba) was said in such a horrible accent it amused...
Read moreMade a same day reservation in hopes of eating some yummy food. Came to the restaurant to hear they can’t find my reservation. Apparently they wrote the name down wrong. Sat waiting for the food hoping to get the meal at once. Crepes came cold, then plate by plate was brought out so the whole party ate at different times. With understanding they’re brand new, decided to give them a second chance and make a reservation in two weeks, even showed them a specific table we wanted to sit at. Come today, the table we requested has a different party seated and they don’t have our party in their reservations. No accommodations, no let’s try to get you seated. Just sorry but it looks like we have you listed for last Friday and you cancelled. All this after confirming multiple times the time and date. I doubt I’ll ever come here again. It’s sad to say but very unprofessional and I...
