Eggcellence Cafe AH — Restaurant in Wheeling Township

Where do I even begin? I don't know if I came on a bad day or something, but Eggcellence Cafe was among the worst dining experiences I've had in recent memory. I ordered the strawberry shortcake French toast and apple cinnamon pancakes with a side of scrambled eggs and sausage. And while the portions were fairly generous (except for the eggs and sausage, which I thought I received too little of), it didn't matter when everything tasted bland. The French toast in particular was nothing like what I was expecting. There wasn't any picture of it on the online menu (another negative is that this place doesn't feature pictures for many of its menu items), so I reasonably assumed the French toast would be stuffed with a shortcake filling of some kind. That wasn't the case and instead what I got was 5 slices of French toast sloppily drowned in strawberry sauce (with too many strawberries) with very little of the shortcake icing on top each slice. It just looked so sloppy and soupy aesthetically. And again it just tasted so bland; there was no flavor to anything and adding syrup did little to rectify that. The pancakes were just as bad. Again--no pictures--so I assumed the apples and the cinnamon would be baked into the actual pancakes. That wasn't the case and instead I got 4 tasteless pancakes with apple slices drowned in soupy sauce on top.

I don't know how in the world a place like this has 4.6 stars given the abysmal (both aesthetically and flavorfully) food I've been served. And keep in mind this was all 40$. I will never come back here again, and if you're reading this, I encourage you to take your dining experience elsewhere. Don't waste your time and money with food as sloppy and bland as that which is served at...

The service here is exceptional. The staff are very accommodating. They are nice and friendly, and they have good recommendations for a first-time diner like me. The restaurant also has a nice and lovely atmosphere and vibe. The inside was also clean and bright. Their menu is basically a wonderful variety of options for breakfast and lunch. My orders were their skillet and French toast, and both were served quickly with a generous serving. This restaurant was recommended by a friend, so I expected that the food would be delicious, and it is indeed delicious. The French toast is full of flavor, as is the skillet. Both were also hot and tasted fresh. I also got coffee for my drinks, and I like their coffee because it has a balanced taste that is definitely not too strong and not too sweet, just perfect enough for my liking. There are also other condiments on the table if you want a few changes in the food or drinks, but I do not have a problem with mine. I like this restaurant overall. It was my first time visiting it, but it will definitely not be the last. My wonderful experience here is more than enough for me to highly recommend...

Overall, I had a good breakfast with my mom here. The service was good, food was brought out promptly, and the establishment is clean.

The food was a bit underwhelming. I ordered the Chorizo Skillet with a side of pancakes. The skillet was fairly bland and lacked a bit of flavor. It was relatively average and should be seasoned a bit more/ have a bit of spice to give it a kick. The pancakes seemed to be a bit undercooked. They were difficult to cut because the top layer would constantly tear; the flavor was good though. I've yet to try everything, but I'd like to come back and try something else in the future. Eggcellence Cafe has a wide variety of Breakfast options which is nice.
