Extremely Disappointed – My Ring Was Irreversibly Altered Without Consent

I went to MJW to have my engagement ring resized and made it explicitly clear that I did not want to lose the sentimental engraving on the band. I originally requested a specific type of resizing setting, but the staff informed me that setting would compromise the engraving. Since preserving the engraving was very important to me, I chose an alternative resizing method that was presented as safe for the engraving.

To my shock and heartbreak, when I received the ring back, the entire engraving was gone. When I questioned this, I was told that the bottom of the ring had to be removed and replaced, and that I had agreed to this. That is completely false. The only reason I chose not to go with the original resizing setting was to protect the engraving. If I had known they would remove it regardless, I would’ve gone with the setting I actually preferred.

This wasn’t just a minor miscommunication—it was a complete disregard for what I clearly stated was important to me. To make things worse, my husband paid in cash, so they are refusing to offer any refund or even partial compensation.

I am devastated that something so sentimental has been permanently altered without my consent. Please be cautious if you’re considering bringing meaningful or heirloom pieces here.

Update 6/6: The business offered me a refund only if I took the review down. That is illegal under the Consumer Review Fairness Act, which protects consumers from being pressured into silence.

I went to few places before to do some research, but when I visited MJW I knew that was the right place!!!. Great family owned business, with a lot of experience and extremely helpful, professional and honest. No BS, which I loved! They worked with me to find an amazing diamond for great price, redid the whole ring to make THE ROCK fit. The whole process was quick and I was being informed about what is going on step, by step. They were open for any suggestions and very patient with me ( which can be difficult). Couldn't be more happier with the outcome and my wife was amazed by the new (old) ring. Phenomenal customer service. I had a ring that had a loose stone and eventually it fell out. I was told by 3 separate jewelers in the area that they did not have the equipment to assist me. The needed a precision laser to make the adjustment, these other jewelers also wouldn’t work on it because it was silver. After finding MJW they helped me immediately and also told me that they could resize the ring so it fit me properly. The prices were fantastic and now I have a ring that will last me the rest of my life. The stone is tightly secured and looks better than it did originally.
