Pita Inn — Restaurant in Wheeling Township

I've been going to this Pita Inn for about 10 years now. This place was my introduction to Mediterranean food and I've been in love ever since.

Whenever I go, I order the beef shawarma sandwich, falafel, and stuffed grape leaves. The beef is so delectable and it just melts in your mouth. The falafel are highly addicting and the grape leaves are just amazing. I've also tried the combination feast, the hummus (with oil and without oil), and the falafel sandwich.

If you're looking for a large meal, order the feast. The lamb and beef pieces are delicious and easy to chew (never had a tough piece of meat), the chicken is flavored beautifully, and the rice is great.

When you go, make sure you try the spicy red sauce and the tahini sauce. Both give the food that extra something-something. Just be warned, sometimes the spicy sauce is really spicy. I'm a girl who loves her salsa hot but sometimes it's too much. When that happens, just add a little more tahini and your tongue will be okay.

Overall, I definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the mood for fast, delicious Mediterranean. I give it 4 stars just because I'm not too fond of the current restaurant set up (I've seen this place go through at least 3 different configurations). Worst online ordering experience I've ever had. I placed an order through their website, said it would be ready 50 minutes later. I go there, ask the guy dishing out food if my order is ready, he tells me not yet. After over 20 minutes, he then tells me I have to checks in at the cash register for them to even start my food. So it took 80 mines from order until I got my food, 30 of it waiting in the restaurant.

There are no signs saying check on here and it the location in Skokie makes your order without checking in. There are no restaurants I've ever heard of that make you check in for a prepaid online order.

There is literally no value in having online ordering if you have to wait in line to check in for somebody to start making your food. Why have a 50 minutes order ETA when they don't even start working on it? Terrible business model that is completely disrespectful to the time pressed consumer.

Haven't been here in a couple years, and they are just as amazing as ever! Pita Inn is by far the best Middle Eastern food I've had. The falafels, hummus, baba ganoush are delicious. My teen daughter and husband enjoy the Combination Feast: shish kabob, kifta kabob, shawarma, chicken tender, and falafel with rice, salad and warm soft pita. My favorite is the all shish kabob entre! I love to put the steak in the pita with their buttery yellow rice, tomato, lettuce and tahini sauce. So good! Oh and you have to get baklava for dessert. The entre portions are large enough for two meals, or to share. The staff in the kitchen and at the counter are friendly and accommodating, and even joke around with you.
