Saranello's — Restaurant in Wheeling Township

I waited several days before writing anything because this was the most disappointing visit there yet. Although the food is always consistently very good, the issue is the service is just as constantly very bad. This night our waiter was pretty nonexistent & aloof & constantly muttering under his breath instead of just talking to us. I waited a while for my wine & twice as he walked by he muttered he needed to put our drink order in. We ordered an app but then, our meals arrived. We told the person who dropped the food that we ordered an app & said we'd like to cancel it. He said he'd bring it out right away & take it off the bill which was really nice. The problem is, he never brought it out. Our waiter asked (or muttered) where our app was which is what we wanted to know as well. I told him someone was talking care of it but shame on him for not apologizing or checking to see if it was on its way out. Our meals were good, we both tried new things. The waiter never asked if we wanted more drinks or dessert & when we finally got him to the table to ask for boxes&then the check id had enough so I asked for the manager. The manager rushed right over surprisingly with our appetizer we'd ordered an hour before & asked if we wanted a dessert. I told him we didn't want a dessert, all that had transpired & he didn't seem to care which is what enraged me. I let him know the service sucks most every time we eat there. Again, no apology for himself or the staff or asked what they could do to improve. I know no one wants to work these days but these issues have been around long before the pandemic was. Sadly, you can't change someone who doesn't want to change & since they were busy on a Tuesday im guessing they never will. Lastly, the reason I'm still dwelling on this is because i noted that this was our anniversary dinner. I wasn't able to flag anyone down the 1 time my hubby left for the bathroom & i wanted it to be a surprise. So, why would you ask on the reservation if you aren't going to do anything about it? We came here for the Father's Day Brunch. It's their usual brunch but not like their Mother's Day brunch which is over-the-top.

Reservations are highly recommended as they are packed. And while there is ample parking, they do over complimentary valet service. We found a spot in the lot.

We were seated fairly quickly after arrival and stating we had a reservation. Our table backed into the collapsed air wall which is okay until the table next to you has someone sitting next to the collapsed air wall and the wall free floats back and forth into both me and the person at the other table.

Unfortunately, we were seated next to a table that had the morning after family from a wedding the night before. The aisles were narrow as were the spaces around the tables in this area and guests kept stopping by to say goodbyes and filled the spaces. I'm glad my wife and I weren't sitting in either of the aisle based seats at our table as these guests were pushing into the chairs and leaning over our table to talk to the other table (hey wedding planners: if you plan on doing breakfast the next day, reserve a room, as your guests annoyed everyone around them and they were unapologetic). The restaurant should have done something about this and didn't. Our serve was so new, that she just went around them instead of saying excuse me or asking them to move out of the way.

Speaking about our server, she stated to us that she was rather new and just learning the ropes several times. My wife ordered an omelet (no omelet stations, the kitchen does them) and our server should have told us that the kitchen is backed up and it takes about 40 minutes to get an omelet. Alas, she did not tell us this and we waited for the omelet. It was less egg white and more mozzarella cheese with the veggies she asked for,
