This is a fast casual restaurant where you order first and they bring to your table. This was our first time and the staff handling our order was very friendly and incredibly helpful with our order. She explained the process and offered suggestions if we didn't eat certain foods.
We arrived about 40 minutes before close on a Sunday night. The place was empty.
My wife got the falafel plate with jasmine rice, a house salad, and hummus. I got the chicken kabobs with jasmine rice. I didn't like the salad options or the garnish options. She offered me an additional side. I chose the potatoes. I rounded it off with a fountain drink. My wife got water.
Her falafel was more like smashed falafel instead of the normal round balls. They were thinner and really fried with virtually nothing inside. I was told that they were flavorless, much like the rice. We both had it and there just wasn't anything to say about it. Bland. That's a good word. She said the salad started out good, but quickly realized there wasn't much to it. We each got a piece of the flattest and flavorless pita. It's a good thing that the dishes came with the pita as we had no idea what you would dip in the hummus (also just meh).
My dish was the chicken kabobs. Normally chicken kabobs come in cubes these were two small, juicy, breasts of chicken. They were seasoned okay. The potatoes on the other hand, were really good. Cooked well and very well seasoned.
Overall, everything was okay, nothing really to write home about (except the potatoes). With so many similar options in the area, we will probably opt to...
Read moreI went to a party here and had a wonderful time and the owner was so kind and the food was so nice and the staff was so excellent and the party was so nice, until this guy with a pit bull arrived and in my opinion insisted on us tipping money to this Hispanic server to sing for the party which he was not a part of.... was very awkward having such an excellent, delicious, fun event, hijacked by an individual who insisted the Hispanic employee sing for the restaurant for tips. I cannot really comprehend how such a magical evening was interrupted by seemingly some random dude who had us cut the music for a portion of the night so one of the staff can be used for entertainment. Food was excellent. Service was excellent. But this wierd situation was awkward to say the least in my opinion. I will definitely be back during normal business hours as this place is a gem in the community. But I dont know how I feel about what I experienced. I really enjoyef the kebobs, the lamb, the potatoes (amazing), the Jerusalem salad. The pit bull with the aggressive guy forcing us to listen and tip the Hispanic singer/server was a bit much for my taste. Overall will be back again. As long as this dude isn't there. I am still trying to process this all but I don't think I can blame...
Read moreWe had been driving past this unassuming restaurant for a few months and finally decided to stop in for a bite. We're happy to report that the food we ordered was freshly made and the dining room was very clean. Two of us ordered the "lunch special," which included beef kebab, lula chicken, Armenian rice pilaf (rice, oil, noodles), hummus and a side house salad. One of us ordered grilled chicken and kasha (bulger wheat), hummus and a side house salad. All of the meats were cooked to perfection and were juicy and flavorful. The hummus as tasty and not tart as some can be (with too much lemon juice). Each plate came with half a sheet of very thin flat bread which was useful for eating the hummus and making small "Armenian wraps" with the meats and salads. We'll have to make a return visit to sample the tempting desserts: honey cake, raspberry cake, eclair. Atmosphere and decor were simple and the canned music was not too loud. The dining room had four tables for four and 13 tables for two. Large picture windows provided a wide view of Milwaukee Avenue. We ordered our food in the entry area of the restaurant, and a kitchen staff person brought our food...
