This particular location they moved into in White Bear lake unfortunately in the past is a doomed location, even though it's right next door to where they were. It has been several different places in the last few years. I hope they can make it work.
For a Thursday night it was pretty dead, walked in to a "please wait to be seated" sign, was there about 4-5 minutes before anyone said anything (a guy behind the bar sawus, did nothing at all,you think he would have told someone) I was just about to head out the door. After we got seated everything was ok. We opted for a hot sandwich with wild rice soup and lasagna with a dinner salad. Both the sandwich and lasagna are excellent. Nice golden brown doneness on the lasagna cheese and very good. The sandwich bread they use is really good too, not the usual cut the roof of your mouth hard stuff pizza places have.
The wild rice soup is pretty good, and seems Tobe a normal menu item, not sure if it's a frozen soup, but it's good!
The dinner salad that came with the lasagna was not that great, no cheese on it though and on the menu it's like 4.95 or something.....if I paid 4.95 for that I would be kind of pissed. The reason we went was this place has a bar! Which is why I've wanted reasturants at this location to succeed.
The tall Bacardi Pepsi (I hate Pepsi) was quite strong and worth the $5. I had two and the wife had to drive home. So a warning that they do pour them strong here.
I hope they stay here, a few things to tweak not much. It would be nice to see this place get packed on Friday and Saturday night though.
But already they are promoting bingo on Wednesdays .....that's always a sign to me no one is coming in. And it hasn't been open that long.
They do a lot of delivery so I don't think they will leave. But damn.....what is it about this corner spot...
Read moreWe just recently had a few pizzas from a Mpls location, and they were fantastic! This place obviously uses a different source for ingredients. Cheese was that stiff chewy type. (Sam's Club)? Some sausage was included that wasn't asked for. The cheap anise flavor overpowered the entire pizza. Mistakenly had some mushrooms as well. Usually, I like mushrooms, but I would guess these are canned types, which were slimey and had a very unpleasant taste. I think we'll stick with Savoy's and Macalousos Roadhouse. Keep the excuses to yourself. We won't be back!
UPDATE * I has been explained to me by an experienced pizza chef. He told me that the cheese has that chewy, plastic texture, and is because of the cheese they use. When a pre-shreaded cheese is used, it will always be that same cheap texture with not much flavor, if any. He continued saying that shredded cheese has an added ingredient to prevent chucking up and sticking to itself. All this processed crap in the food chain is terrible for all of us. So when making dishes at home, always shred the cheese yourself. Then it won't taste like Carbones in White Bear on Co. Rd. E! P.S. I forgot to mention this to the owner or manager. Was very condensending and said they buy all of their supplies from the same place as all the other locations. Most people know that a wholesale food distribution company always has different choices in each category. I might have been born at night, but not last night. Please excuse any typos or incorrect phrases. I'm not afraid to admit I might be wrong. It's...
Read moreThis review is for food pick up only. I ordered Buffalo wings, garlic cheese bread, and a small pepperoni pizza. The wings were crispy and awesome. I asked for ranch and the man at the counter looked at me like I was nuts. Then, he asked me if I had been asked about sauce on the phone when I ordered and I told him, No. He went in back to get ranch. He was fine about it, mostly. I offered to pay for it and he said I was meant to be asked about it when I ordered.
The garlic cheese bread tasted like nothing. No flavor. Garlic was very subdued. Cheese was bland. The bread choice was interesting. But, not in a good way.
The pizza tasted like cardboard. The sauce seemed to have dried up. Again, flavor was completely absent.
The food was ordered while I drove there and was ready when I arrived, which was about 20 minutes. I drove 8 minutes home to eat it, so it really should have still been hot-ish, but it was not even really lukewarm. My friend told me I ordered from the wrong location and said the locations have vastly differing quality of...
