Updated 3/16/18: while we still enjoy HPH I was not happy with the mince and tatties. The description in the menu says it's chopped steak with gravy over mashed potatoes and roasted veggies. What I received was a barely grilled hamburger patty. I was never asked how I wanted it cooked and it came out red, not pink but red, inside. I sent it back as I prefer patties like that more well done. Received it back slightly less red. What's worse is it did not match the description at all. It was not chopped or minced meat but rather seemed to be their hamburger patty grilled and put in top of mashed potatoes and then their gravy and veg around it. The menu description was very very off. Had I know it would be pattied meat I would have ordered something else. I expected mince: chopped meat (steak like the description said). I was very disappointed that this is what the dish was. It more closely resembled a Salisbury steak than mince. Hubby got the stew with mashed potatoes tonight and it was good though again was slightly off from the description in that he was surprised it was mostly stew with a small dollup of potatoes in the center. He was still quite happy with the dish though. Overall I do think they are good but I'm not sure we'll be back for dinner any time soon. I contacted them on Facebook about the mince and their response was that it's very popular and they did offer my next meal on them but didn't seem to care that the dish did not resembled the menu description. Just be warned what this dish actually is if you consider getting it.
Previous review: Everything was great. The waitress was pleasant and the food was delicious. We ordered the chicken sandwich and the hph burger. The burger was juicy even though I ordered it well done. It was so much food I had to have my husband finish it for me. We saw them bring out fish and chips to one table and they looked fantastic. So did the Ruben fritters they brought to another table and the chicken strips they brought to a child. Seriously we will be back and can't wait to try everything...
Read moreWell me and my friend both were very excited to trying out this place for the first time. Although we both agree there could have been better costumer service. Today we came in, the male waiter assigned us to our seats. Then departed to go get our water we asked for. A couple minutes later he brought us the water and asked us if we were ready to order. We were and then didn't wait too long for the food. About 20 minutes. He brought the food. After about 10 minutes, we were looking for our waiter to see if we can get a salad cause my friend is on the me to diet and can't eat the corn or carrots ( which she also ordered it with no rice ). Another 5 min gone by still he was no where in sight. Finally we asked another workwr for our waiter and then he shows. Brings us the salad. Then after that he didn't come back till he brought the bill. Not onelce did he refill our drinks. Not even offered. Not once did he ask how the food was. He really just stayed away from our table unless we needed him. Me and my friend was talking about the poor waiter servise we were given and this wonderful later behind the bar overheard us talking and came to us and asked if we needed a refill. Plus she brought us Togo cups. I wish our waiter was doing his job so she wouldn't have to do his job for him. It's an unfortunate first time going. Not sure if we will consider this place to be a go too type of place. Just because of lack of costumer servise. But we did like the food. The mixed veggies didn't taste all that great but that's just my opinion. The chicken fried steak was big and tasty. Again we came in with high hopes but left confused. I always believed first impressions makes a world of different in costumers. The reason its only a 2 star is cause of our first impressions was not the hope we were looking for. But the lady behind the bar. The blue eyed lady...
Read moreWe gave this place a try while we were in town doing some shopping. It was good enough but nothing to write home about.
We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer (which are spears). Using pickle chips would be a big improvement.
My wife and I both ordered the Bigger Mac. I chose mine medium and she chose well done (don’t get me started). Of course we both had fries for a side. I chose to have mine smothered with gravy and beer cheese (The Highlander treatment).
My son ordered a sirloin with fries and fried okra. He also eats his steak well. I’ve tried to tell him but he insists he likes it that way.
The Mac and cheese on the burgers was good. I wouldn’t say that their Mac and cheese is as delicious as they claim. The burger itself was drastically under seasoned. Honestly just a little salt could have made the burger 10x better. As it was it was mediocre.
I didn’t have any of the fries without gravy and cheese. However I never would after I tasted them with it. They were delicious and the best part of the meal.
The fried okra was clumped up as if it were fried in freezer burnt wads. It tasted fine but was difficult to eat.
My son said his steak tasted like pot roast more than it tasted like steak. I told him that having a steak cooked well can dry it out. He insisted it wasn’t dryer than he normal gets. He said it just tasted different. I didn’t physically try it so I can’t confirm.
Overall, the service was extremely slow. The staff was nice and pleasant but the time to receive simple drinks from the bar was excessive. Staff wasn’t super attentive.
I wouldn’t recommend going or recommend skipping it. If you are looking for decent food and decent service, you’ve found it. Just don’t expect anything to be...
