I came in tonight and sat at the bar around 9:20 pm. I ordered two meals, one for dine in and one to go. I ordered two grande meals with substitutions on each. The first was to replace the ground beef with shredded for all my beef items, and to replace the tamale, which become increasingly smaller in portion with a second taco. The made all the items with shredded beef and mole sauce over everything, which the mole sauce was for the second meal. To top it off, there was only a half scoop of guacamole, instead of a full scoop that it should have. The second meal came out in a bag. The bartender said everything should be there. When I got home, everything was not there. I asked for double rice and no beans, which I got beans and rice. I asked for mole sauce on the enchiladas and there was no mole sauce. I asked to substitute the chicken enchilada for a shredded beef enchilada and it is a chicken enchilada. To top it off, there is no guacamole in the to go order whatsoever. There were only perhaps two or three other orders that were made after mine, so they weren't busy. I don't know why it so difficult to ring up an order correctly when the substitutions were clearly given. The bartender was courteous, but not friendly. She spent more time trying to close than being concerned with her customers. I am highly disappointed given the prices they charge. The Grande price has steadily increased and their portions have steadily decreased and so has the service. We've been going there since 2007 and they are making it difficult to want to go back. I would appreciate hearing from someone in...
Read moreAfter going to Aubuelo’s for several years, and they have been our favorite Mexican restaurant, we just had our first bad experience. That being said, we eat at Aubuelo’s about every other week, so we give them a lot of business mind you and spend a lot of money with them. In the past, we have come thru the door, asked the front desk if we could eat at the bar, and they have instructed us to just stay one side or the other wherever we want to sit, go ahead. Today, we went in, asked if we could sit at the bar, and were told “yes.” We proceeded over to the bar and there wasn’t one person at the bar. We found an open table (which was every other table with no black table cloth on it) and sit down. The waitress followed us with menus which has happened many times, sit them down and then said “just so you know, this is not open seating anymore.” I said “I don’t understand, what are you saying, you said yes, so, why can’t we sit here, and she said, you can, but it’s not open seating.” We finally got it out of them that the waitress has to tell us where to sit after them doing it differently for 2 years. I informed the manager when we left that they might want to get their processes the same each time and stay consistent because we were being harassed this time and we could always take our business elsewhere”. She said that their process has changed. That being said they might have just lost a dedicated, faithful, customer, because we were both angry and still are after all of the money we have...
Read moreAs a visitor from Kansas City, I stopped by Abuelo’s at the Wichita Waterfront and had a fantastic dining experience. The restaurant’s atmosphere was one of the first things I noticedn, warm, vibrant, and welcoming. It strikes a perfect balance between upscale and comfortable, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a good meal.
I ordered the chicken quesadilla, the dip sampler, and the beef empanadas and every single dish hit the mark. The quesadilla was crisp and packed with flavorful chicken, while the dip sampler offered a great mix of fresh, bold flavors. The beef empanadas were especially memorable, with a rich, savory filling and perfectly golden pastry. Clearly, the kitchen knows what it’s doing.
One hiccup: I was initially seated at a dirty table by the host. While that was a bit off-putting, the situation was quickly resolved, and thankfully it didn’t define the rest of my experience.
What truly stood out was the exceptional service from my server, Alondra. It was her very first day serving at this location, but you wouldn’t have known it. She was professional, attentive, and genuinely kind; checking in just the right amount and making sure everything was perfect throughout the meal. Her enthusiasm and care really elevated the entire experience.
All in all, Abuelo’s delivered an excellent visit. Great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and outstanding service from Alondra made it a place I’d happily return to the next time I’m in Wichita. Highly...
