I've been going through Rene's drive-thru for 3+ years now, off and on. I always ordered a carne asada w/ just carne and cheese, and was kinda miffed that just 2 ingredients cost more than 5 (1.50 for adding cheese, wth?), but it tasted good so I bought. In the last year, I have been ordering tostadas as a quick energy boost for my next job, as I am on the road a lot, and every time I order it with LIGHT beans. Not ONCE has my tostada come with LIGHT beans...it's almost doubled. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. Even though I ask, and reiterate "LIGHT BEANS PLEASE." But no...always drive off and can't even pick the thing up without it breaking, or having to pull over to scrape the excess off, IF I was given a fork. I am always hoping that this one time, they get it right. Not holding my breath. Actually stopped ordering that item because of it. Anyways, I've been craving tamales since before Christmas, and don't know any other place that I can get it fast and to go. So, I ordered one to go last night, and could not have been more disappointed and frankly, disgusted, that a (authentic?) Mexican restaurant would serve its customers this Mexican staple in such a disrespectful fashion. It was shrunk, dry and tasteless. One bite in, and I could barely chew. Ends were like leather, and it was like eating packing peanuts. I threw it back in the styro-foam package, that probably had more flavor, pretty pissed I paid over $2 for such crap. For what ever reason, (starving maybe?), I took another bite hoping it would be a little more moist and swallowable. Nope...smh, it was disgusting. I truly believe it was bought from a store and kept heated under a lamp. I was already several miles away, so I wasn't going back. I will not patronize Rene's again. A side note...I speak some Spanish, enough to order in their language, but I choose not to, because you would think that they would understand common English words, such as...
Read moreFood is decent. Prices are great IF you are charged the advertised price. HOWEVER, they DO NOT give a receipt, and they frequently charge more than menu price.
This has happened multiple times in the last 3 or so months. Most recently, tonight. I was in a hurry, and ordered two different burritos, a side of rice, and two sides of sour cream. I am used to the typical $25 fast food cost for my wife, my son, and I.
The total came to $27 and change when I pulled up to the window. I didn't even think twice, as I handed $33 cash and said keep the change. Once I got home, I opened the bag and realized that I didn't get a large meal for us. I wasn't thinking, at all. Somehow two burritos priced at $5.50, and $6.50, plus a side of rice @ $2.50 and two sides of sour cream (unless they were $5 per small cup) somehow came to $27.
I was stupid enough to give them $5 EXTRA as a tip. I paid them more than required to take advantage of me. Wife is super pissed.
My burrito tastes like delicious...
Read moreThis place is. A. Joke. Not only was the lengua dry, the carnitas are not worthy of being called carnitas, it's just dry and boiled pork butt. I can see why this place is popular with only a certain demographic. The only thing that saved this meal was the somewhat seasoned carne asada meat. You guys are giving out bland refried beans and bland rice. ARE YOU EVEN A MEXICAN RESTAURANT IF YOU DONT HAVE CILANTRO AND ONION FOR TACOS?? The cheese is a poor excuse for "queso" since it's canned. They then proceeded to give us chips and queso as nachos?? The horchata is not even 2☆ as it was so watered down and grainy. No TRUE Hispanic comes here. It's only worthy for those black out drunk nights so you don't realize there's no flavor. People come because it's 24hr and there's barely any choices in town. Do. Not. Recommend. Pay attention to who are leaving...
