My partner and I came here on a date cause we both wanted to check it out.
First and foremost I want to say the food was phenomenal. He got a tea with popping boba and I got an iced coffee with irish cream syrup and we shared a cheese cake cup and a pesto grilled cheese. I was so thrilled that there were so many gluten free options. I don't think I've seen that many items on the menu or actually have the person taking my order ask if it needed to be gluten free. There were also loads of treats around that were gluten free.
But other than that below is my general list of likes and dislikes!
Likes: I really liked that the doors were light and easy to open. I usually struggle getting front doors open and I could open it very easily. There were loads of gluten free options as well as decaf options. Its really hard to find good decaf espresso and this was great. Most of the space was wheelchair accessible! A few of the nooks (like the 90s corner) you can't really get to the seats if you are a wheelchair user but you can still look at the stuff in those nooks. There was so many varieties of art from local artists ranging from sculpture to paintings to pottery and jewlery and so many more things. It was great! There was also a little stage area for like performances but also a wii set up up there and loads of board games. Most of the board games were in the designated kids area which is great all on its own. Also the music didn't blast through the whole shop and that was so refreshing. Bathrooms were also really accessible! Their wide and open and the larger one is specifically marked as the handicap stall but I think you could reasonably fit a manual wheelchair in both. There's also pads and tampons available in one of them. And both bathrooms have exhaust fans! Which is great news for the folks out there with IBS. Plus there was a step stool in each bathroom for kids so they could reach things. There was a huge array of seating you could select from as well throughout the cafe. Also the place is very clearly queer friendly. I saw quite a bit if queer art and accessories.
Dislikes-
A lot of the chairs in the front section of the cafe by the stage area were really small. While I am not the smallest person in the world I'm also by no means plus size and my thighs were spilling over the sides of the chair. Plus the backs were not designed to really be comfortable to lean back against and I had to sit diagonally on them. We ended up moving to some plush chairs in the back after a few minutes because my partners back started to really hurt.
The last dislike i really had was it was hard to find their permanent menu online and then the one I did find was no longer accurate. While not much had changed on the menu it did make making my decision about what to order much more difficult.
Despite my dislikes I do plan on coming back. Overall this place was great and I really recommend the food and the coffee. I plan to come back when we have some more spending money!
Edit: I went today and they had moved the seating so the ramp was accessible!! There is now two little tables and chairs with some plants and it looks really nice! I don't think I've ever had a business change something based on my review and I really enjoy that! I will definitely be back...
Read moreSunflour Cafe & Collective is phenomenal! I just tried it today and immediately knew I had to tell everyone I know about this place. It’s nice that we have a place like this out west, which desperately needs more fun places to visit.
First, the food is excellent. Everything is vegetarian, so I don’t have to worry about any cross contamination with meat. They also have the option to make food gluten free or vegan, so I appreciate the inclusivity. I had the Chilly Dilly Wrap and Ube Unicorn Pancakes and they were so delicious I forgot to take pictures first. The prices are also very reasonable.
Second, I love that they focus on being sustainable. They actually list the ways they try to help the environment. They compost, use recyclable plastic, and encourage bringing in your own cups. I hate when businesses present themselves as eco-friendly to attract business, but don’t follow through on that promise. Sunflour is transparent about what they do, which is great to see.
Third, the atmosphere was really cute and welcoming. It felt so cozy and the customer service was excellent. I didn’t catch her name, but a blonde cashier found us and brought us our coffee when we were wandering around looking at jewelry. She was so kind and knowledgeable when we asked questions about menu items.
Lately, they support other local artists and businesses. They give artists a platform to sell their products, which is so cool. They have a wide variety of items. All of the art and jewelry we saw was really cute.
Overall, great place everyone should try! Everyone can find something they will enjoy. I can’t recommend going...
Read moreUpdate: came back recently after not having been back in awhile. They’ve changed the menu drastically which was probably needed but removed their best item… THE PIZZAS. The jalapeño popper pizza was my absolute favorite. I am super saddened and disappointed to see those gone and I hope they bring them back. Sausage gravy bowl was kinda bland but better after salt and pepper. They really need some hot sauces for customer use too. Caramel macchiato was good but the matcha just tasted like milk. Hoping they keep on going and make improvements.
I’ve been here a handful of times. I will say that I’m giving 5 stars just on sole principle of this place being the only gluten free/vegan place that exists in town and I really want it to succeed. That being said, I think they really should change the location eventually if they do want to be as successful as possible as this is a strange location. Mid or downtown would be cool. I’ve REALLY truly enjoyed my food and coffee every time I’ve been here. It would be cool to see some daily/weekly specials on rotation or days featuring other local vegan chefs that don’t have their own cafes. They are a new business with limited staff, so definitely do not come here on a day when you are pressed for time as the service can be rather slow, otherwise you only have yourself to blame. Can’t wait to see how much better they get over time as they’re already a pretty darn good option.
Also, I cannot believe some of the absolute snobbery in these comments. Some folks need to get their noses out of the air and stop and smell...
