The Gateway Diner — Restaurant in Wickliffe

Hi guys, today was my second time in less than a week here. (I'll keep coming) I am the Executive Chef of Pinstripes (Orange) and as a Chef you have highly expectations everywhere you go, I don't look for perfection, but I want to really enjoy what I eat and have a good time also. It's been very difficult trying to find a place around the Willowick, Wickliffle area where you can get all these things (plus you want them to have reasonable prices right?). Since you walk in through that door they receive you and treat you like you are part of the family; it feels like home but with friends. Our food was just right, my wife and I ordered eggs and they were perfect (both over easy), love their country fried stake and homefries; my daughter loved the mickey mouse pancake they made for her. They are really working hard and doing a good Job. Let's keep supporting the business that really care about us and if they make a mistake (we all do), give them the opportunity to make it up to you. Remember that after Covid many restaurants were and still are struggling trying to find Staff (FOH and BOH) and it has not been easy for any of them. So be nice!

We were looking for a place for breakfast, passed by this restaurant and decided to give it a try. The staff were all very friendly, greeting you as soon as walked through the door, fast service. We ordered french toast with eggs and the eggs Benedict. The french toast had good flavor but some of the crust areas difficult to cut. The eggs were much less than picture perfect, part of the whites overcooked and tossed onto the plate. The hash browns were over cooked, lot of small hard very brown pieces that shouldn't have made it to the plate. The english muffin for eggs benedict was basically burnt on the bottom. Perhaps it was just the cook on today, don't really know. After reading the story behind the restaurant, I had told my husband would like to go and support two young women starting out, so had higher expectations. Hopefully the owners will pay closer attention to food going out because the overall menu looked interesting. We will consider giving it another try for lunch or dinner sometime. Btw, when I had googled "breakfast places in Wickliffe" this restaurant did not come up. Probably should look into that...

We had breakfast. Ordered omelets, they were ok. The service however was not, there was only 1 waitress and she clearly was not experienced in multi-tasking! The kitchen is visible and we sat at the both were we could see the hot food come out. Food came out steaming hot and put under heat lamp, but it also sat there for over 5 minutes! The past waitress in me wanted to go pass it out to the customers! Everyone wants their food delivered hot and when customers have visual access, I would thing that would be your number one concern! When I saw our food come up I asked if we could get our meals and was told to wait a few minutes and she'll get it to us because she was busy. 🤣 very frustrating! Do not eat here go if you are limited on time! If they had 2 waitresses or 1 waitress who could quickly multitask, this would be a nice spot. Hopefully changes are made so that this business is able to remain open, people don't return when you get the type of service we did. There are so many nearby great alternative places...
