On my way from Eureka to SF, I stopped in to sample the north coast's newest brewery. The aesthetics inside are interesting, If you are a train buff you will thoroughly enjoy. There are tables made of rail car flooring with axle and track legs, held together with railroad spikes, and the foot rail at the bar is, well, rail. But the true test of course is the beer. I did a flight of tasters; I'm not a hop-head, so steered clear of the IPA's. The blonde, amber, and stout were all very good. The pale, however, really stood out from the pack, and I'm generally not big on pales. This was a flawless example of the style, and definitely my favorite.
If you're headed south on Main, it's easy to miss until you're right there, look for the arrow and locomotive symbol. As mentioned in other reviews, there is no food (yet) so brought in a burrito from Willits Taco House, which was very good.
Definitely a reason to get off the bypass and go through town!

Read moreI'm sort of surprised that I'm the one writing the first review here. Yes, it's only officially been open one day, but in that one day a lot of people have come and gone. It is no doubt the talk of the town. Getting down the business here, the establishment is not quite fully open. The kitchen has yet to start up though that's not stopping anyone from coming in. Also there are about seven or eight beers on tap. Clearly there are plans for more given all the space available for more taps behind the bar. What is available is of the good quality of beer that one would expect from those who care deeply about such things. The establishment has a railroad theme and is fitting to those that are familiar with the history of the area. Inside and outdoor seating is available. Roll up doors open up the inside to the patio set in the front. The overall feeling is of spaciousness and community with generous natural lighting. I raise a glass of pale ale offer a toast to most successful and long lived establishment. We really...
Read moreThis brand new addition to the life of Willits California is fantastic. The beer is excellent. They have as many as four different IPAs as well as lagers and pilsners and sours and who knows what else. The owners are working hard to make this spot essential to the life of the town. Don't expect big screen TVs, however. They want folks to talk with each other and enjoy the beer! There are lots of board games and occasionally there's live music. North Spur is a spot along the Skunk Train route and the brewery carries that railroad theme without being kitschy. They are in the process of opening up the kitchen and soon there will be amazing food available. As it is right now, you can bring in food from neighboring restaurant. I highly recommend the Willits Taco House right...
