The strangest bar I’ve ever been to. Felt instantly like I wasn’t welcome and shouldn’t be there. First and last time going here - I somehow dodged this bullet of a bar after living here my whole life.
Came to enjoy catching up with friends and enjoying a drink after playing bingo before heading home. Walked in, the bartender did nothing but glance me over the entire night, never offering a drink and it wasn’t a full bar whatsoever. My friends and I were stared down the whole evening - stares that could have cut glass, they were direct and made us feel super uneasy.
It was also dead silent in here. No background music at all. There wasn’t enough chatter for there to be no radio or tv noise on. So, I go to the jukebox to play a few songs to break the tension of it being so cold and weird.
Bartender then says… “don’t put more than $5 in because we have a DJ coming in soon to setup. Just trying to help you out.” That was the first time she said anything to me the whole night.
Oh, thanks for the heads up… weird they have a DJ coming, I thought, but hey - better than it being no noise. Only to realize an hour plus later there was still no DJ, it was still dead quiet, and she LIED because she simply didn’t want us there.
We weren’t trying to party, we’re 36 years old, literally just wanted to catch up with friends after our bingo game.
I couldn’t stay there or support this business any longer. Never have I ever felt so unwelcome in a place right in...
Read moreStopped in at Cheers to You on Wilmington Island and had one of the most unwelcoming bar experiences I’ve ever had. The bartender was borderline rude from the start; no drink recommendations, no enthusiasm. When I asked about specials or signature drinks, she flatly said there were none… even though there was a jalapeño margarita clearly written on the board behind her.
This place seems to cater only to locals; if you’re not a regular, don’t expect warm service. I asked if she could make a specific drink and got repeated “no, no, no” responses, claiming she didn’t have the ingredients. When she finally made my drink, she slid it over with a sarcastic “good luck!”
We left right after and went to Bar Bar on Wilmington, where the service, atmosphere, and drink selection were miles better. If you’re looking for a friendly bar with good drinks, skip...
Read moreThis is, by far, one of the most unique bar experiences I have had to date. At first glance this is a worn down, beat up, half abandoned shack on the water. But if you force yourself past the exterior, past the thought that it is unsafe, you will find a warm and friendly atmosphere. The patrons are regulars and locals. This is not a tourist spot... at all. Locals come for privacy, laughter, kind natured gossip and, of course, a good drink. The tap list is varied and expansive. The bartenders have a solid handle on the standard coctails. There are boiled peanuts in a crock pot and popcorn in the machine. The view from the back deck over the marina is beautiful. I can promise I will be making this my "go-to" bar from here on out. If you are an islander,...
