Do you want to know where the locals go? You found it. Jax is a diner where the locals go for drinks and an inexpensive meal. Don't walk through these doors looking for fast food. You won't find it here. This is good food and inexpensive prices. How do they offer quality at a fair price? They do it with long term staff and locals who can walk through the door and request "The Usual." The night I visited there was one waitress and one manager/cook, and that's okay. You eat here for the experience of getting to know the people around you. You visit with the waitress. Talk to the locals and as soon as you get involved in a good conversation your food shows up. It may take twenty minutes, it may take an hour on a busy night, but that's okay. You came here for the drinks and the people, not for fast food. When your food arrives... It's good. The food is hot, and the prices are low. If you've got the time, this is the place to go. When you walk through the door, there is a "please wait to be seated" sign. We heard a voice from the kitchen yell out "sit anyplace you want." We took a seat at a table and the waitress showed up with the menus. The waitress struck up a conversation about beer and the food. She knew the menu and the bar. She was having a clumsy night, getting used to being pregnant. I decided to order a pizza that reminded me of one of my favorite Mystic Pizzas. One I always buy when I'm in Mystic CT. It's sweet with just the right amount of heat. One of the best tortilla pizzas in town. Light and delicious. The perfect pizza for watching soccer on TV. This is a great place to watch a game, have a conversation, and get fairly...
Read moreI wanted to try it out since I saw so many good reviews. I was expecting to enjoy the experience. Boy was I wrong. You are greeted by a sign that says “seat yourself.” I was by myself and the bar was full so I grab a bar top table close to the door. I watched for 15 minutes as the wait staff took orders and delivered food but they never acknowledged me. I know they saw me because I made eye contact on 2 occasions with the waitresses as they went outside to the folks on the deck. There was a gentleman behind the bar who finally came out and took an order from a couple who came in 10 minutes after me. I waited 15 minutes and finally left. The only acknowledgement I got was from a waitress who said “excuse me”as we were both headed out the door. I suspect it’s easy to ignore one person rather than a table of 2 or more because there is less money to be made on a single person. Granted I was hungry and thirsty and would have gotten a good bit of food. I am sure the restaurant will chalk this up as only one person being too sensitive and they may even respond with “sorry for your experience please try us again.” The reality is that I wanted a good experience and got the opposite. So why would I want to go back? If the food is like the service then it must not be all that...
Read moreI came here yesterday during the warm but windy mid afternoon, 03/07.
We have never been here before, but we're intrigued to check it out.
We came in to be very greeted by the staff who let us pick where we wished to be seated as we chose to sit outside.
It was a nice set place to eat on a bench with an umbrella within if needed as we did not this day.
We got assisted by our waitress along with the drink and food menu as it was a little slower when we got here, but it was between people getting off work and dinner.
We started with just a couple of drinks from their drink menu and some pickles, which were great.
When it came time to order, I picked the French Dip as she chose Reubon, with both of us choosing the macroni salad.
We talked and relaxed and hung out until our food arrived, and we were delighted by the sight of it once it was in front of us.
The food choices we picked were awesome; the food was made to perfection, and so far, it seems you can not go wrong with whatever awesome sandwich choice you pick.
We will...
