This place has potential, but needs some work, the workers are amazing, professional and kind. I am not one to make a scene at front desks because those who work here cannot help the issues, and they work HARD! With that said, we checked into IHG Holiday Inn, Van Campen Blvd, Wilmington, NC today. I received a notification that my room (427) was ready. Arrived to discover, this was not the case. I also discovered, anyone considered "local" whatever that means, is charged a $250 security deposit. Well, local, I am not; however, I do live 45 miles away and chose to come up early, in order to bring my husband for a flight and didn't want to have to drive through dark, deer infested highways at 3am and grid lock on the way out The location was close enough to deliver my husband to the airport safely, catch a nap and be able to work myself on Monday, well that plan changed after we got up and saw not 1 roach, but roaches (plural ) early in the morning as we were preparing to take my husband to the airport! Regardless, I understand damage deposits but damage deposits on a room with roach infestation, rust and wet carpet/beds etc. no! I do wish the $250 local fee would have been mentioned to me prior to check-in, no worries, the gentleman at check in was incredibly nice, and I understand not all people behave appropriately at hotels. Okay, on to the room not being ready, it is a busy time of year, the gentleman at the front desk was very kind and helpful, he quickly changed the reservation and put us in another room (127). Unfortunately, the hallway leading to the 1st floor room is swelteringly hot, the room has a broken ac unit, again additional "guests" of the roach persuasion, and the thermostat on the wall is broken as well, the room has very poor ventilation, showers don't help this, it is very damp in the room, I noticed, I think, where gum or something has been in the floor, there is black spot melded into the carpet. The beds feel sticky due to the humidity but were comfortable for the 6 hours we were there. The tub is rusted in places, and lots of rust on the appliances, probably due to the excess moisture. I planned to take photos prior to check out to document the way I left the room, but after seeing the bugs, we got our belongings out, and left immediately I was not eating a free breakfast from the place I was already questioning cleanliness due to the german cockroaches. There is a positive in ample parking, and cost, it is close to restaurants for dinner. We made it through for 1 night, but we don't plan to return to this location whatsoever. I am actually a little concerned this is a Holiday Inn (IHG) property. It is in poor condition over all. But the roach situation has me extremely grossed out! Now, don't get me wrong, I am not talking about " a stray water bug, or palmetto bug (which by the way are HUGE and fly, yes I said fly" (still a roach) however, these were the infestation kind, german cockroaches, the kind that hang in refrigerator coils hide in luggage, bags, shoes and tv sets (actually the tv is where we saw 2, and another was climbing down the side of the entertainment center and scurried under the joining room door) two disappeared under the television stand, and I wasn't chasing them down!
PLEASE IHG, please fumigate, and consider some additional dehumidifiers in rooms, it would make such a difference in the moisture. Overall, I believe this place needs some help. As of June 23rd, 2024 this place is not a good place to stay if bugs and excessive...
Read morePolice officers searching for trafficking young ladies! General manager Julia Hagsby was a nightmare! Never stay anywhere where they will make excuses for cleaning people coming in to your rooms when you have do not disturb signs out on your door! I travel every week for 4 years! Never have had to write a terrible review! These ladies , the receptionist, the front desk personnel & the general manager must gave nothing better to do than make up drams to keep their life fulfilled! I stayed only 4 days, worked 4 , 12 hour shifts and the police came a total of 3 times. When I reported the maid in my room on the first morning I arrived, not cleaning, not taking out the trash, not making a bed, they decided to target my room by calling the police and accused me of harboring young ladies or trafficking them! Absolutely absurd!! It was the worst experience and the most embarrassed I have ever been in my life! The injustices these ladies gathered to outright lie about is Criminal! I have already contacted an attorney and I will pursue justice to the full extent if the law! Please be aware these women are thieves, liars, and are not the ones you want looking over your rooms, your belongings, and mist definitely cannot be trusted! Beware of women in power who have some serious issues and shouldn’t be working with the public!! The worst experience ever! You may check in but the police will come for you with lies from a group of women who got caught doing what they shouldn’t have! Instead of calling out their employees & apologizing they decided to call the police and have them search my room , not once but twice for these so called women being trafficking!! Of course, these women were never found! However, the front desk and general manager decided to target me for reporting the cleaning lady being in my room when she wasn’t supposed to be, didn’t even have a cart outside the door! Only reason she even git caught was because I was working nights this week! So, where most customers work days and are gone nights they must be in the habit of going thru your rooms and belongings. I should have left immediately! Go with your gut! Dont let people like this be in charge of anything in your life! You could ruin a persons life with lies, you can make people lose their jobs with accusations like this! All 6 different officers came and left! Keycards never worked when id return to my room, EVERYDAY!! They wonder why youd be upset to have to go downstairs 4 times in 3 hours, when you arrive from a 12 hour shift to go downstairs and ask for your key card to be fixed!! Apparently they dont know what they are doing! Im not alone, im just speaking up! I was the wrong person for them to choose! This must be their M.O. Beware of these women running the hotel and cleaning ladies with no rules! Id heard of these hotels but this was my first experience with the worst hotel ive ever been at!! For the record, I travel every week for 4 years! New city & town every week! I have NEVER experienced the worst visit until I met the general manage who has no scruples and definitely let whatever power or authority she gas, for now anyways, get to her head!! Please go somewhere else!! Please be careful what you dont like about your stay here! Dont say anything or you too could be accused of...
Read moreAs a military veteran who has stayed all over the world this is by far the worse hotel I have ever experienced. While checking in, the staff was very unwelcoming and rude. There was no greeting. There was no bell. I stood there for a little while before trying to see in the back and having to yell for acknowledgment. The lady came out as if I was bothering her and she wasn't at work. We decided to continue to stay here anyway. The hotel interrupted our family father's day dinner 3 hours after completion of check in to inquire about our service animal. The staff never required us to provide documentation but only verbally wanted to know the task the animal was trained for. That information was given and we continued with our stay. The next day late morning while getting our 3 kids ready for the beach, the manager requires we have documentation. She was very rude and inconsiderate as we provided her the documentation. Prior to travel for this trip, myself and another guest called the hotel to verify the requirements for the service animal so this situation would not happen being that we knew the hotel did not accept regular pets. I asked for the name of the staff members from the manager so I could file a complaint and the manager demanded we check out immediately. As far as the room, there were stains on the headboard and one of the bed sheets. We had several issues with the toilet. We were not provided with enough bathroom items such as wash cloths to accommodate our family of 5. The air condition unit was also loud and faulty starting and stopping every 5 minutes. The location was perfect for the activities we wanted to do in the area.
Edit: The dog was not left for several hours barking. We were in the room for 3 hours. Dog was quiet. The dog is a quiet dog. We left after 7pm to go to the golden coral 3 minutes away. And was called shortly after paying. It is impossible for the dog to be barking for several hours when we weren't even gone 30 minutes yet. We can not follow the procedures and standards if they were not given to us even after us asking what they were 2 times prior to arrival. The dog is registered and that information was available via electronic which you then demanded to be printed out the next day of our stay. Which was fine and they were being printed out. At that point it is getting to be harassing. For someone with PTSD, yes I did get frustrated and angry. We were demanded to check out when I requested the names of staff members. Why was me asking their names cause to kick us out. The bell was not thrown. It was pushed off the desk after being demanded to leave with no reason given because the manager walked to the back while addressing the situation. No one was in front. There was no danger. No one was hit or could have been hit. Instead of being a manager and correcting the situation she followed the actions of the employees under her and made it worse....
