Hunan Cafe — Restaurant in Wilton

The food was ok, far too light on sauce but ok. The service was absolutely awful.

The Szechuan dumplings tasted good but there wasn't enough sauce to fill a teaspoon, let alone cover more than one dumpling. The scallion pancakes were cooked perfectly but didn't come with enough dipping sauce for more than two pieces. The sushi/sashimi was fresh but the cuts of the pieces were far smaller than normal. The sushi/sashimi dinner also did not come with any miso soup or salad despite costing $29... And that's the good qualities of this place.

The service was awful. I have never experienced worse service anywhere. They took our order and never once checked back in. Everyone got their meal and had time to finish before the person who ordered sushi. Not once did anyone ask if we needed a refill on our completely empty drinks and we were sitting with them empty for 45 minutes. The sushi still had not been delivered to the table an hour and a half after the order was placed, so we decided to change that part to go and...

I am in Wilton Connecticut for business and came here with a coworker. We both got lunch specials. He got house special fried rice (beef, chicken, and shrimp) and wonton soup and also an egg roll. I ordered sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and an egg roll. Just based on the egg roll alone, Hunan Cafe is definitely worth a visit. It was so good I didn't even remember to get a photo beforehand. My sweet and sour chicken was excellent and even better the sauce wasn't super syrupy like other places make it. This is the first restaurant I’ve been to since I’ve moved to CT, and I was hoping to get something authentic, something good. (I’m Asian, btw.) We ordered the scallion pancakes and the sushi. The place was totally empty, with just the staff. The person who seated us didn’t seem very attentive, but he wasn’t rude.

The sushi - the fish was obviously unfresh, and it gave me a stomachache after eating it. I could barely muster a few bites before throwing up. The pancakes - nothing you can really go wrong there, but it was just meh....
