Very disappointing experience at no fault of our waitress. Two minor notes: the booth benches you sit on in the main bar room are stilted and rock back and forth when the person behind you moves even slightly. My food came before my momâs which is excusable, and the waitress immediately apologized and made sure her food came out soon after.
The main issue was that when we ordered, my mom explicitly stated sheâs gluten-free. She has a severe wheat allergy and hasnât eaten wheat in 25+ years; itâs not just a dietary preference. The waitress made a note of it and my mom ordered their âgluten freeâ pizza with eggplant, ricotta, and basil.
Once it came, after about a slice, my mom noticed the eggplant was breaded. We asked them to double check if there was wheat breading on the eggplant, and the waitress came back to tell us yes, unfortunately there was. The man who came over with her (Iâm guessing the manager? But not sure) explained it was dipped in flour âlightlyâ and at any restaurant they bread the eggplant. Then quickly told us the waitress was new while she was standing right there. This really bothered me. First, he blamed us for not assuming the eggplant would be breaded with wheat flour even though we ordered a gluten free pizza from their menu. Then, he blamed the waitress who told us she had made a note that the meal should be gluten free when she took our order. Seriously? Not her fault. Regardless, making excuses like that isnât really helpful. This might not seem like a huge deal, but my mom gets really sick even from breading. Also, many restaurants know how to make a pizza and other meals top to bottom gluten free.
She started to feel sick and was in pain right away so I got my food wrapped. They did not comp the pizza but kept offering to make us another pizza. No thanks! My mom doesnât feel well and we have to leave so we canât really wait for another pizza. We tipped the waitress normally because again, not her fault. It was really the arrogance of that guy that caused me to write this. If they properly apologized and acknowledged it was a problem, or had given up $15 to take the pizza off the bill, they wouldnât have lost our business. We were looking forward to finding a new local spot for lunch, dinner, or drinks but we wonât...
Read moreThe red rooster pub is a restaurant I have been visiting under different names since 1983! For many years, it was called Portofino and they were famous for their pizzas and their chicken Parmesan. Red rooster has been around since 2019. They still make pizza for dining and takeout. And they kept the original chicken Parmesan from Portofinoâs, which is my absolute favorite chicken Parmesan anywhere in Fairfield County. Iâve been there a few times recently, and I love their wide variety of items. I love their tacos. They serve appetizers. Great nachos. They have a full bar with a variety of beers, wine, and spirits. In the nice weather, there is a cute outdoor area with umbrellas right on the tiny âriver.â Itâs a great place to have a quick lunch or a leisurely dinner and itâs great for special events. I took both my girls there for their high school graduations with a large group and everyone loved it. The only reason I did not give them five stars was because their music is always blasting And it makes it difficult to have conversations or to relax. Of course, when I have asked them to turn the music down they do. But I just wish some restaurants would be more cognizant of their decibel levels. I love red rooster pub and the location has been a restaurant for 40 years. Try it and I guarantee you will like it. Youâre always welcome in Wilton,...
