Inside is awesome, casual and quite cozy however, pray you get a good server. We had reservations for 16 people at 6pm. We were set up in a great area, plenty of room at one if the adjacant dining rooms. We had 3 servers. The servers were not attentive at the beginning, not enough bread or butter and it may sound petty but I ask for several lemons for my water so i could refill my own glass and the server brought two. I asked again and I received an irritated response and no lemons.
We all ordered chicken parm and veal parm with spagetti, eggplant parm, shrimp scampi spaghetti, lasanga, baked haddock and we all had salads.
The salads were excellent nice portions and the house dressing ...a balanced homemade italian delicious.
The eggplant was good but quite thin NOT WORTH the price and same with the baked haddock ! The chicken parm was HUGE but pretty good. Capri's is so much better. The veal parm was a nice portion and was I told it was excellent. One of my friends ordered french onion soup (a cup was $4.50) huge slab of bread and like 4 onions very disappointing, I tasted it and we both agree that Capri's french onion blew Rizzo's out.
Another guest ordered lasagna and I ordered a side of lasagna...it is absolutely anazing! I would've preferred a little more marinara sauce, but that is my preference. The spagetti meat sauce is quite spicy! The owner's son stated that there are a lot of peppers, and seasonings that give it the hotness. He also reported that the marinara is more spicy because of added peppers and spices but disagreed as I'd say the meat sauce is hotter.
The desserts are approximately $5 plus and our server had NO IDEA how much they cost! However, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their desserts.
The coffee was mediocre and was old. The service was below average. Very disappointed. One server asked another server to collect her checks too and the poor girl got them all messed up and the other server talked poor of her which was a turn off for me. This server was the same lady that acted irritated toward the majority of our party.
I will be back solely for the salad and lasagna and just go to Capri's im Westmont. For the money Rizzo's took off of us and for the Rizzo's name, I expected better service and...
Read moreOk.... I have only lived in Johnstown for a few years... I have been hearing people talking about how good Rizzo's is for quite some time, so I was really excited to try it. I just recently had the chance to go and it was so so so disappointing. I started off with their soup special which was seafood bisque it was edible at best. Second course was a salad. It was a very plain and boring salad, their vinergatte was bland and I hoped for so much more. The worst thing though was my entree. I wanted the veal parmesan. Most time when you get veal or chicken or whatever parmesan it comes with a side of pasta. Nope! It came with NOTHING. I just had a plate of veal, cheese, and sauce. The veal was tender and what I expected, the sauce is okay at best. My girlfriend got the Alfredo and it was good, but not great. Another guest with me got the lasagna, it looked decent but I did not try it. So then comes the time for the check, I had a beer or two but another guest had soda. The glass the soda came is was 6 to 8 ounces, very small. My guest had a few sodas, when I got the bill they charged us on refills for seriously the smallest glass of soda ever!!!! I did ask the waitress about this, she brought me a menu after about 5 minutes she showed us where is said no refills. I have never in my life been somewhere that doesn't offer free refill, I would complain at all about it if they didn't put it the smallest 6 ounce glass that they have. So on closing I would say the food is edible at best but I would never recommend someone there! Sorry Rizzos you really could do so much better. By the way our...
Read moreI’d rate this restaurant the best we’ve ever eaten, hands down - the type of restaurant you see in “movies” where it’s family owned Italian since the 20s.
The food is obviously the main reason we go, ALL is homemade and fresh, absolutely delicious. From the delicious bread they first serve you up to the dessert which is always A+, and my family has tasted all of it.
I will say however despite the immaculate food, the second main reason we go is the atmosphere. There has to be over 40/50+ staff/waiters/waitresses/chef at any given time. Every one of them ALWAYS shows kindness to my family - the classic “letting the kids come back to the kitchen to pick their dessert”, always sweethearts who aren’t cold when we order or need something, almost like always talking to a friend.
I’ve visited Rizzos since I was a child, however it’d been over 10 years since I’d went (life happens) and only recently started going again. The same cozy atmosphere that it was since I was a child looking up over the tables and now sitting at the head of it.
It goes to show that not everything needs changing and some places should stay the perfect way they are. We absolutely recommend Rizzos. Our only complaints are some days it’s difficult to get a table, despite the stocked staff - it’s an incredibly popular restaurant, and that’s not their fault, but this is only sometimes proving difficult. Otherwise, you’d be crazy not to come...
