We’ve driven a bazillion times by Deck House Tavern, and every time we say, “Look at that spot! The view must be amazing. Let’s go one day!” Well, we finally made it happen, and we loved it! I seriously can’t wait to go back.

Located in Windham and next to a go-kart + mini-golfing spot, odds are you’ve also driven by this restaurant. The views from the deck are spectacular, and I can’t wait to go back during the fall foliage season. The indoor space is also lovely — it feels like a giant cabin! We loved the vibe: it’s cozy, lowkey, and casual, which is precisely what we were looking for.

The service was excellent from the minute we walked inside. The hostess was accommodating when we asked to sit at a different table (better views!), and our waitress was kind and constantly checking on us.

The menu was more extensive than we expected. They have it all — an impressive starters section, plenty of pub/tavern food, and even dinner plates. They also had a full cocktail menu (all reasonably priced), plenty of local beers, and wines. We had the strawberry margarita with jalapeño-infused tequila ($10), and it was delicious (albeit a bit small for a marg, but it was also only ten bucks). Our burgers ($18) were great, but unfortunately, a bit overcooked. The fries were just okay, nothing to write home about, and portion-wise, smaller than what we expected. We also ordered their four-cheese macaroni as a starter, and that was delicious!

Overall, however, we enjoyed our time and can’t...

After visiting shipwreck cove with a few kids and adults, we came to dine and were surprised to find that a group of 3 adults, 3 kids and 2 infants couldn’t fit at an outdoor table due to high chairs being in the way. We were then seated indoors and not offered a single high chair. Drinks came out fast and our margaritas were delicious! We ordered the kids food first and said we’d put our order in after. After receiving the kids food we didn’t see our server again for quite some time. We never received silverware or napkins. Our server didn’t return to take our order. When we finally saw her we decided to get our checks because the kids were getting antsy. I understand that kids can be a lot at a restaurant but we were there at 3:30pm (so not prime meal time or anything) and I would have thought a place with lots of family/kid-oriented activities would have a more...

I came to this restaurant because it was closed to the hotel I was staying at, and I Was very upset with how the hostage treated us. We asked for a menu so our boys can see what they may want before we waste anyone's time before we sit down and eat, and the hosted gave us the drink menu and then, with a hostel attitude ask if we wanted the food menu as if we were causing a problem. You see, we are from out of state and came to Maine to pick up our boys from a two-week excellent summer camp study, and we decided to stay over in Portland for the night. Imagine this is the face of the business and they treats someone like their present is a bother so it make us image how will the rest of the service be. For this reason, I will give it a shallow review. Before hiring a hostess, make sure she represents your place to the top because first impressions are the key...

Normally I would give this restaurant 5 stars BUT Today on a 95 degree day, my husband and myself were pretty shocked that they didn't have their AC going inside the restaurant. It was disappointing that we KNOW Apple Bees would have had AC today. :( Keeping customers cool = staying longer, spending more $$$ Edit: response to owner No offense but we come quite often, usually a bill of $100 or more. It has never been that hot inside. Your staff had shiny fore heads. I feel bad for your kitchen crew. If your aware your building is larger larger most, you should invest in better cooling if you want customers to stay longer. You could tell inside the building was non moving air. As soon as we went out in 95 degrees, it felt cooler, cause the air was moving. We will be back, I just hope you take this into serious professional consideration. Thanks

We came in with a party of 8, and although the online booking showed no waitlist, we were told we’d need to wait 40 minutes because “the kitchen would be backed up.” Meanwhile, the restaurant was nearly empty, with more than three waitresses standing around. What made it worse was how dismissive the staff were — they didn’t acknowledge us or make any effort to accommodate. It left us feeling singled out, especially since our entire group is Latino. Whether intentional or not, it was extremely discouraging and unwelcoming.
