I blinked awake, my head pounding and my surroundings shrouded in shadows. The damp scent of earth filled my nostrils, and as I tried to move, I realized I was lying on a bed of moss. Panic surged through me, memories of the troll's gnarly grip flooding back. Just as I began to piece together how I had ended up here, a figure emerged through the trees.
It was Joe from the Dough Depot, but he was different. He sat astride a magnificent white horse, sunlight spilling over him like a halo. His usual flour-dusted apron was gone, replaced by flowing garments that shimmered with an ethereal glow. As he approached, I caught sight of magnificent wings sprouting from his back—glorious and feathery, catching the light in a way that made them seem almost alive.
“Joe?” I croaked, still disoriented.
With a gentle smile, he dismounted and knelt beside me. “I’ve come to take you home,” he said, his voice rich and calming. He effortlessly lifted me into the air, cradling me as if I were as light as a feather. As he rose into the sky on the wings of an angel, I felt a rush of exhilaration, the forest shrinking below us.
The ground fell away, and soon we were soaring above the treetops, the world opening up beneath us. I caught my breath, marveling at the beauty of the landscape. Fields stretched out like a patchwork quilt, vibrant and alive under the warm sun.
We landed softly at the edge of the forest, and Joe set me down gently. I looked at him, still trying to comprehend what had just happened. He gazed out over the open field, then turned to me with an understanding that went beyond words.
“Sometimes,” he said, “we find ourselves in the dark places, but remember: light will always guide you home....
Read moreThey were busy. Christmas is a week away. This was my first visit. I ordered, coffee, chili mac, and a strawberry shortcake for dessert. Coffee is strong with a robust flavor. The chili mac had corkscrew pasta with lots of cheddar cheese, meat, and chili. The chili is billed as mild; however, it had some kick to it. You can place a small or large order. I chose a small order so I'd have room for dessert. Most hot entrees are served in foil pie plates with plastic silverware. Meal arrives in a basket.
Service was good. My server asked me if I wanted a to-go coffee without me having to ask her.
For dessert, I had the strawberry shortcake. It came with lots of whip cream, strawberries, vanilla ice cream, and a sweet biscuit. The biscuit had the consistency of a cookie as opposed to the twinkie-like sponge cakes you buy at the store. You can get one or two scoops of ice cream.
The total for my order was $12.95, which is low-to-mid range. You can keep costs down by drinking water and choosing the smaller entree.
Next time I go, I will get a pizza.
Be sure to check out the small shop in the front. Jewelry, gloves, and other novelty items are available and most of it is...
Read moreFood was amazing, wish I could say the same about the service. I don't get much time off running my own brick and mortor business. I usually tip $75-$100 when I do get a chance to take off, especially if im treated right. Unfortunately she only got 10% because I felt I only got 10% of her attention. She rushed us, I didn't get a lid for my drink or napkins. Everyone around us did, including the others at my table. I felt judged because of how I looked. How do you forget a lid and straw for just 1 person at a table? The entire staff was more worried about cleaning and shutting off lights while 3 other parties were still there.
I'm also in public service, I don't get the luxury of clocking out on time if there is an emergency 5 minutes before the end of my shift. If you were irritated we came in 30 minutes before closing, then never have an emergency at a shift change. All I can say is, treat people how you would want to be treated or judge them by their appearance. It will get you far in life and make you successful in everything you do.
Hopefully, next time things will be better. We did finish our meal and...
