LaChance recently opened evenings for dinner. Located in the historic "Old House," Kimmswick now has an evening destination And it's certainly one worth visiting. With a great selection of their own and California vintage wines. We had the Cabernet. The grapes/juice are from California and LaChance makes it into wine. It was wonderful! Along with the wine, we started the evening with a Martini, up, dirty. It came as expected, quite good.
Our dinner selection was Swordfish for myself and Tuscan chicken for my wife. The entrees come with a salad and choice of two sides. The salads were fresh with a tasty mix of lettuce. My Caesar was great The dressing was very tasty. My only complaint was the dressing quantity was a bit excessive. Next time I will order it on the side.
The Swordfish came with Risotto, green beans, and cherry tomatoes in a delicious mix and a presentation to match any 5 star restaurant! My wife's Tuscan chicken received similar reviews from her. They tasted as good as they looked!
We finished the evening with Bread Pudding and Cheesecake. Excellent!
All in this was one of the finest meals I have had in a long time. We did not try the steak but the menu features an excellent selection. Saving that for next time; which will be very soon
My opinion is this is definitely one of the very best restaurants in Jefferson County and will challenge any of the top contenders in...
Read moreVisited for the 1st time this past weekend with several family members. I had bid on 2 gift cards at an auction that were supposed to be $50/each, and I knew that with our group, we'd spend in excess of that--but more on that later. The wines and sangrias are very good, but pricey, and you're paying $12 to taste before you buy, also. We ended up getting several Quarts of Sangria, and several bottles of wine. We also ordered food, since you're not allowed to bring in snacks--hamburger/french fries, pretzel bites, potato skins, charcuterie board. All were ok, except the $22 charcuterie board. We were told it took so long to get because 'they ran out of a few things'. So, missing from the tray--mozzarella cheese, mango chutney. The grapes were inedible--had a 'musty, old' smell and were very soft. Now--the gift cards. Again-they were supposed to be $50/each. They even had $50 in marker on them, and the auction description was for (2) $50 gift cards. But, when I went to use them, only 1 was $50-the other was $25. Ended up spending even more than planned because of that! Honest mistake on their part? I did reach out to get their take on it, but have gotten no response. Think we'll stick to our usual wineries, where tastings are free and you're allowed to bring in snacks (and thus able to spend more...
Read moreA very historic building in a very historic town. Ambiance and atmosphere are literally off the charts. How many places can you go and eat in the same place President Ulysses S. Grant ate before he was famous or president! The serving staff are phenomenal. The main top thing here is the EXTENSIVE wine list. Of course from their own vineyards. The dissapointing thing was the menu & food servings. The steak kebab was not very appetizing. The steak was tough & the veggies were way overcooked. The rice was prepared al dente. Maybe that was on purpose or maybe it was just undercooked. As you chewed it the rice was granular/grainy - eeww. The gravy or meat juice in the rice was unpalatable. The 8oz Filet Mignon was TOUGH. How do you make filet mignon tough? The kebab & filet mignon came to $57. Our bill ended up being over $100 not including tip. When we left we did not feel we got a $100 meal experiance. The entrees were substandard at best. Since we live over 600 miles away it is extremely unlikely we will ever visit again, but if we lived locally it would be extremely unlikely we would ever visit...
