Update: went back s second time and brought friends to eat in. Maria was an excellent server, accommodated dietary needs, was knowledgeable, and pleasant. She hit all the marks! The dining room was decorated as one might expect and the booths are generously padded making them comfortable. The one "lunch" meal ordered (a quesadilla) was portioned appropriately. The Carlos salad had a lot of chicken and shrimp and was large (two meals for many people) and my California chimichanga was huge (I behaved and saved half for dinner.)
Thanks to Facebook I discovered this restaurant in the next town over. I arrived about 2:30 and the restaurant was empty. I ordered the chicken fajita salad - it arrived very quickly. I took it to go because my plan was to eat only a quarter of it and save the rest for the next day as I already had dinner plans (I had missed breakfast and lunch). Well, the smell was intoxicating and the first bite was so good, followed by another , and another. I quickly decided diet be damned, I was going to enjoy the entire salad. I did refrain from licking the container, but I ate every speck of food. The chicken was tender yet several pieces were slightly crispy on the outside where the marinade had caramelized adding depth of flavor. I tried the chips and provided salsas when I got home (did I mention that I devoured the salad in the parking lot?🤣) The chips were thick 👍 and slightly greasy, but not so that the chip was ruined, just enough to leave some stains on the paper bag they were packaged in (freshly fried perhaps? I forgot to ask) The salsa was flavorful but not spicy 🔥, and whatever the white sauce was, it was excellent! (On second visit my friends thought the salsa was spicy, but I still think it mildly spiced) I hadn't planned on eating the chips due to my diet restrictions, but I'm glad I tried them as they and the salsas did not disappoint. I am a margarita snob and find most restaurants do not make a good tasting drink, so I am hoping to get back to El Mexa when I have more time so I can try one. There are (2, soon to be 3) closer Mexican restaurants to me, but El Mexa exceeded my expectations and provided the best tasting food. It is obvious that the proprietor cares about putting out great tasting food. I do not hesitate to post negative comments, but there is nothing to improve upon the food served at El Mexa. I look forward to eating there again, and again! I will definitely eat there to celebrate my Cinco de Mayo birthday and will ensure I have a designated driver so that I can try a...
Read moreOur family and friends love this quaint, family oriented restaurant that specializes in authentic El Salvadorian food made with hardworking El Salvadorian hands. The drinks are very refreshing and there is something for everyone, from tea to milkshakes and of course your adult beverages. Great things come in small packages so please give them a chance. They’re in the space on the corner down from the ABC store. (Previously Costa Del Sol,...
Read moreGreat customer services. The carnitas tacos have been the best of their kind, flavors, well-balanced, fresh red onion, cilantro, and fresh tortillas. The tacos were so full you couldn't even close them, so the portion for the price were really good. .... Churros were not homemade, but the coolwip and the chocolate syrup tops the flavor. They were ok.
Maria was a great waitress, very attentive, and attention to detail.
I haven't been able to find any restaurant that will do...
