My bf and I decided to give Coppola's a try tonight for dinner. Let's just say that it was not a pleasant experience. The server was very nice. We ordered mozzarella sticks for appetizers and for the entrees, we ordered chicken parmigiana and baked ziti. The first red flag was the amount of marinara sauce covering both of our entrees. You couldn't really see what the order was. My bf ordered the chicken and, underneath all the sauce and cheese, it was the saddest, thinnest, lacking in moisture, gray looking "chicken". My ziti was lacking flavor. I'm sorry I didn't take pics of the chicken because I still cannot believe that a restaurant would have the balls to serve that. We told our server that we were not satisfied with our food. She apologized and had the manager remove it from our check. No problem. Fair enough. I went to pay for our sodas and mozzarella sticks when the manager came over to take my payment. That's when it got unpleasant. The manager proceeds to ask me if we didn't like the food. Not sure if he was being sarcastic but I said no, we did not. With other customers sitting waiting on their orders, he proceeds to mansplain to me that he has been in business for 32 years and hasn't had complains about his food (really? In 32 years?) and he says to me "whatever". Boyfriend didn't like that and they proceeded to have a back and forth. Basically, the manager said to us that since he had never seen us there, our opinion about his food didn't matter and he would be happy if we never came back. We said no problem because this isn't real Italian food. We weren't rude at all but the manager just pushed and got rudeness back. It's sad that you can't find good mom and pop Italian food in Winston-Salem aside from one or two places then you venture to give local places a try and regret...
Read moreWe live near this place and have been wanting to try it for awhile, and we absolutely will never go back. I can't stress enough how terrible the experience was from start to finish. We ordered from the parking lot through Doordash because we were driving by and decided to stop. My husband went inside after they marked the order as ready for pickup, but it wasn't ready. He waited an additional 10min inside (after waiting about 15 in the car). Why did they mark it as ready if it wasn't?! Ok, not a huge deal, at least it will be fresh. Wrong. By the time we got home, literally a 4 min drive, the French Fries were so cold and soggy, you could tell they had been sitting. Probably the part of the order that was ready for pickup... The Chicken Parmigiana Sandwich ... where do I start? The quality of the chicken was the worst I've ever had. Super thin and tough to chew, let alone break a piece off with my teeth while taking a bite. There was so much cheese, it was unbearable. Basically a mozzarella stick between bread. And almost no sauce, which may have helped with how bad the chicken was. The way they worded it on their menu, it sounded amazing, but it was literally cafeteria food. There was nothing fresh or quality about it. My husband got the Stromboli (Small) and he didn't hate it, but said he would never get it again. He had to get a knife just to cut through how much cheese was in it, which he wasn't impressed with. If there was less cheese, he said it would have been a lot better. Overall though, the worst meal we've had in...
Read moreWent here after my daughter's graduation bc a fancier Italian steakhouse had too long of a wait, and I'm really glad it did. Coppolas is the definition of a hidden gem, a diamond in the rough. From outside, the building and surrounding "shopping" center scream at you to run away, but I promise if you fight that feeling and go inside, you will NOT regret it. The atmosphere is cozy and homely, without being messy and dusty. Brick walls, wood booths, wine bottles, old pictures, really make you feel like youre in a laid back, neighborhood place. The food was ridiculous and the prices were excellent! Best fried calamari I've ever had, shrimp fra diavlo was exactly the right amount of spicy, salads that came with dinner were clean, fresh and colorful, my mom said it was the best lasagna she's ever had.... and I could go on. Our plates were empty and we were stuffed by the end of dinner even with 3 picky kids. Since moving down here from NY I have not been able to find a decent cannoli, except that now I found an exceptional one the other night at Coppolas. Tiramasu was dynamite as well. Our waiter, who was just graduating high school as well, you would have thought he was in the restaurant business for 20 years! Very professional, attentive, helpful, friendly, quick and hard working. We even met someone who looked like the manager/owner ? who was super friendly, joking around with us. We used to just pick up pizzas here once in a while but I'd be proud to become a steady regular at this place and...
