Don Zapata's Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Winston-Salem

My husband and I went for a little date night and we usually love this place and have never had an issue with service or food. We were seated and asked for a queso fundido for an app. The waiter seemed inconvenienced when we requested it while still deciding on our dinner. I ordered my usual arroz choripollo and my husband had the special. Our meal came out the same time the booth behind us got their meal and we had ordered about 20 min before them. My rice came out mushy and lukewarm, cheese was congealed, and the chicken was cold. I had finished my first beverage and was waiting on a refill halfway through my meal. I waited for about 15 minutes and the waiter brought me a to go cup and a straw. My husband had to ask for another drink for me once I finished that one. The waiter never acknowledged us at all when we spoke to him. He slammed down my to-go drink as we were getting ready to leave. My husband told him that he wanted my meal removed from the check because of the quality and I hadn’t eaten but only a few bites. He supposedly told the manager, however the manager never came out to even talk to us. Bad food and deplorable service. We will not be back. There are plenty of other Mexican...

I would love to give it at least 4 stars because the food is just that good that it warrants it. However, our service this evening was just that bad. If I'm rating on service I barely give it 1 star. From the start it wasn't good. The host that sat us had to go find and bring our waiter to our table. When our meal came out we were missing items from our order and our waiter did not come around to verify the order was correct, which is standard practice. After waiting about ten minutes, the host saw us and checked on us......the host, not the waiter. During this wait and through the meal the waiter was in our dining area several times but never checked on us for anything. He did his very best to walk around the far end of the dining area to avoid us. Hands down the WORST service we have ever experienced here. The amazing meal is their saving grace and as of now the only reason we will be coming back. We will be sure to asked for a different waiter/waitress. 5 star meal with 1 star service. Hoping next time...

Can we scream downhill what happened at lunch August 2, 2024 arrived in the restaurant 11:50 AM was directed to sit in the bar at a booth. I don’t do that. I asked to be sat in the dining area I was taken to a booth, the lunch was deplorable. I have been eating at this restaurant for 25+ years. It’s changed hands and names throughout the years, but it was always a good go to restaurant stay away. Save your money. The server did not even come by one time to refill our water or our drinks Did not come by to ask how our lunch was it was deplorable. We had a burrito. I chose the Texas burrito. It should be served with shrimp sliced steak and chicken dishwater(3) shrimp served with rice and refried beans. Three pieces of beef. It was disgusting and I had anticipated caring home half of the burrito to have for my dinner. I left it at the restaurant...
