Our second visit here, a few months after a great first experience, was just okay. We sat at the bar, and while the bartender was friendly, he was also obviously new, which impacted the entire experience.
The first awkward interaction occurred when I ordered a Zombie and he asked if I was driving. As a man in his mid-50s, I don't feel I need permission to order a drink. I don't want to fault the guy for being new, but as a bartender, I'd expect he'd have some previous restaurant experience.
It also seemed the other servers were getting frustrated with him for making mistakes. My wife felt bad for him, but I sided with the servers. We ended up watching a passive-aggressive "death match" instead of enjoying a nice dinner, and we were even taking sides.
The food was hit-or-miss. The spring rolls were great, but the Rangoons were meh—too much cream cheese. My wife's curry was absolutely delicious, while my grilled eel don left a lot to be desired. For the price, you can find other places in the area that serve unaju with much better presentation, quality,...
Read moreIncredibly sorry to share this as I really do love Thai Taki and have been going there about once a month since it opened, but unfortunately not safe for people with Celiac Disease. I've been diagnosed for about 6 years and this was the worst experience I have had since starting to navigate dining out with my allergy.
I was glutened there tonight at dinner, being served the drunken noodles with gluten in it after making the server aware of my allergy and that I needed it prepared gluten free. I ate it for about 5 minutes before the gluten free version was brought over to me and I was made aware that I had been eating gluten that whole time. I'm really heartbroken about this as it was one of my favorite restaurants before this happened, and with how carelessly it was handled I do not feel comfortable ordering...
Read moreWe went there for lunch and got the lunch combos. I got the pad thai while my dad got the crab fried rice. The pad thai was unremarkable, but the crab fried rice was quite good. The other items in the lunch combo were good, but nothing to write home about, except the tom yum soup which was great. My judgment may be skewed here since I love tom yum soup. The Thai tea was a bit weak and too sweet for my taste. Service was great. Our server was attentive and friendly. Not a bad option if you are in the area and want...
