We have been to this place a couple of times before and have always enjoyed the food. However our recent visit during COVID-19 times was very disappointing. They do not seem to be interested in following the state’s guidelines on capacity limits and social distancing during the pandemic. They have a very small space and by our estimate, were well over the current 25% capacity limit and tables were very close to each other. Some staff were not wearing masks correctly. We had ordered takeout and although we arrived 15 minutes late, our order hadn’t even been started until we asked about it. Initially we waited in the cold as we were told that it would be ready soon and we were not comfortable with how busy it was inside and the apparent disregard for pandemic guidelines. After a while, we checked again and only one item was ready. At this point, we kept getting told that it would take another 5 minutes until we asked them to tell us exactly how long it would take because we just wanted to cancel the order. We were rudely told that “everybody is waiting” as if we were in the wrong after waiting for over 45 minutes. There was no apology offered for the delay, the order was not canceled, and the restaurant could not give us a reasonable estimate on how long it would take. What’s worse is that they were handing us someone else’s order and we had to tell them it wasn’t ours.
Clearly, times are tough for the restaurant business in general but we were disappointed with them not following the governor’s orders regarding the pandemic and lying to us about the delay with our order. We understand that sometimes there are delays with orders and that they had more orders than they could manage but they could have given us an honest estimate so we could safely wait in our car. To top it all off, one item on our order was not even available but we were only told after we got there. Overall, an extremely unpleasant experience that has soured our opinion of the restaurant and we will not be returning...
Read moreI've been here on two occasions now, both times were for an early dinner so we avoided the rush. We arrived at 5pm but by 6pm on a Saturday night there was already a wait for the bar and a table. The bar is on the smaller side but that is where I have usually sat. The sangria is delicious and a must try. Plus like an authentic tapas bar, they give you a little mini-appetizer with your drink. The owner and staff were all friendly if not only a little overwhelmed, which must be a night occurrence here. The food came out of the kitchen at a good pace and I would say between 2 - 4 tapas per person is sufficient.
Kobe Empanada - Great beef empanadas. Could I tell whether or not Kboe was used? Definitely not, but it sure was still very good and reasonably priced.
Iberico ham - Do you like prosciutto? Then you will love this. Some of the finest ham Spain has to offer.
Pan con tomate - Toasted bread with a tomato, simple and delicious.
Blue cheese steak - I love blue cheese and steak so I also really enjoyed the flavor profile of this dish.
Squid ink pie - One of the more unique items I have tried here. It is served at room temperature was filled with calamari. This item is a little more adventurous but I really enjoyed it and would order it again.
Ceviche - If you like ceviche then order some because it was delicious
Oxtail - The slow cooked oxtail was served with mushroom and was very tender. If you like beef then don't be afraid of the oxtail.
Shrimp in sizzling garlic oil - This item is always a hit and I consider it a must-get item. Dipping some bread in the hot garlic oil is highly recommended.
Crab Croquettes - Almost like little fried crab cakes. The crab meat was plentiful and tasted very fresh.
Almond Custard - This was like a creme brulee except without the crunchy top. The bottom was coated with a candied almond type of paste. Similar to what you would find in an...
Read moreI was really hoping to enjoy Pintxo Pincho Tapas Bar more than I actually did, which is unfortunate. There are a few reasons this review is the way it is. 1. They should update their online menu to include any price differences between online orders vs takeout and eat in orders. We called in a takeout order using the online menu and the prices on the online menu are completely different compared to when you actually go to pick it up. We ended up paying more than expected because of this. When we asked about the price difference they said it’s because it costs less to order through the online website vs calling in?? Why is that.. why wouldn’t the prices just be the same regardless? Which leads me to my next point 2. The portion sizes vs. cost just weren’t worth it in my personal opinion. 3. The Txistorra only came with one tiny piece of bread and then a handful of chorizos, which weren’t “thin” as the description stated. I personally thought the description was misleading and it overall just wasn’t what I expected it to be.
We also ordered the Paella de Pollo, Croquetas de Chorizo, and Empanadas de Pollo, which were all ok, but pretty bland compared to other authentic Spanish/Spaniard foods. It could have used more seasonings or maybe different kinds of seasonings that would make it taste more authentic and give us the flavor blast we were hoping for. The food was prepared nicely, but again portion vs cost just didn’t add up for me.
When we picked up the food it was a great atmosphere and great service as well. The food was packed nicely and still fresh by the time we got home, which was a plus.
This was my first experience here, so maybe ordering take out is a completely different experience...
