I have tried nearly all their items. When they are busy the food comes out pretty slow, but that's understandable. When they are not busy and you order a burger or Chapli Kabob you will still wait awhile. If you are in a hurry, order the Chicken Kabuli or the Afghan Macaroni!
If you don't like an item on the menu, make sure you say so a couple of times. They tend to forget about taking off Olives in my salad or the raw onion on my burger (why not grill the onion?)...till this gets fixed, no 5/5...
Staff are very friendly. The owner is a chill dude!
Original Rating - 3/5 on 6/20/17 The food is very good! Food comes out very quickly. Staff are very friendly.
My main CON is that the portion size for the Kabob meat for to go orders does not equal the quantity for eating at the restaurant :(
This is especially bad when I'm paying $14.03 for 4 (vs7-8) piece of meat, lots of rice, 2 pieces of bread, and a scoop of vegies.
Oh, in addition, if you order the Loaded Green Salad with Sirloin Kabob, I guarantee that you'll get more meat on it than if you order the Kabob for basically $3...

Here's the low-down: House of Shah is absolutely amazing, from the moment of stepping through the doors you are immediately greeted by smells of distant lands and smiles of happy, warm staff. When it's time to belly up to the register (it's counter service), make sure to ask for Sal or his beautiful wife Juliana. He'll gladly take you on a tour of the menu. Finding out what you like and suggesting from their array of dishes to choose from to find your perfect meal. When it's time to find a seat you choose from takeout, seated inside, or to enjoy the beautiful weather on House of Shah's intimate patio overlooking downtown Woodland. While you can't go wrong with any choice on the menu, I ordered the Sirloin kebob while my wife ordered the Chicken kebob. (a tough decision since everything on the menu is delicious) Both were seasoned and cooked perfectly, served with salad, rice, naan and two dipping sauces. (If you want the secret sauce, you'll have to ask about the jalapeno Serrano garlic sauce) After mopping my plate clean with naan(my wife easily had left-overs) we considered dessert. Afghan ice cream sundae. Vanilla ice cream topped with pistachios and rice noodles, ending with sweet cream and rose water. While exiting and once again, receiving a warm goodbye, we took a lap around downtown woodland before heading back...
Read moreTHE WORST!!! Their food is far from Afghan food. If you have tasted real Afghan food (which you can find a lot of good Afghan restaurants in Sacramento), you'd know that their food is nothing like Afghan food. Went there with family and we all got disappointed, seems like they have everything ready cooked and frozen and they just heat up in the oven and serve it. Their Afghan wraps - beef/chicken were served cold as if they had been taken right out of the fridge pre-made. Their Aush and Mantoo were the worst, seemed like they had filled the Mantoo dumplings with salt instead of meat. Having been to a handful of Afghan restaurants in California, this was far the worst experience I had. I feel sorry for everyone else who didn't have real Afghan food and they assume this is the best they can get. Most of the 5 stars in the review are from people who I assume had never tasted Afghan food and that's why they are giving 5 stars which is ridiculous. I went in based on the reviews and what a disappointment this was. The photos look appetizing but...
