Wow!! What mouthful of flavor in the middle of downtown Woodland. We got the dumplings...super yummy and could be a meal , but advertised as a shareable; a ground beef patty kabob with cumin seasoned rice which we shared; and the ice cream dessert. The vanilla ice cream was sprinkled with cardamom and pistachio. I could/would eat that all day long. It was large enough to share with 3 other adults and a two year old. My eating comrades really enjoyed their meals, too. We drove from Sacramento and Davis and would do it again. This is a causal dining experience and has seating for about 25 to 30 people. Super nice cashier. We will be back. Good vegetarian options.

Their toilets are outside the shop in a different unit a block away which makes no sense and it is LOCKED, so you have to go check first then take a member of staff with you to unlock it. We ordered 3 kebabs, and got two bites per kebab (picture shared) very small serving. The food tastes good though that’s the only face saving point. They charge you as soon as you order and its pay as you go per se, they make you feel like you will run away after eating food and not pay. All cutlery is disposable. One of the most pathetic service ever, the girl at the reception seems like she absolutely hates her job.

I gave them 3 stars because the menu was not specific. We ordered a 2 kabob meal and the description of the kabob meal says any 2 kabobs. A Kabob description on the menu says 5 pieces of meat. So I expected 10 pieces for 2 kabobs. But instead we got 3 pieces of each meat. We called and the way that it was explained to us is that when you order a mixed Kabob it’s only 3 pieces of meat each. This was a little confusing and a little misleading. I just felt like it wasn’t a whole lot for what we paid for. However the food was good.

Rating #2 - One of the best restaurants on Main Street!

Menu Items Tasted + Ratings Shah Fries: 2/5 Shah Fries with Chapli Kabob: 4/5 Bonjon Burani: 1/5 Samosa: 3/5 (very small) Loaded Green Salad: 2/5 Load Green Salad with Add ons: 4/5 Chapli Kabob: 5/5 Tandoori Sirloin Beef Kabob: 3/5 Afghan Macaroni: 5/5 Chicken Kabuli with Breast: 1/5 Chicken Kabuli with Thighs: 3/5 Shah Burger Medium: 5/5 Shah Burger OVER COOKED: 2/5 Chapli Kabob Burger Medium: 4/5 Chapli Kabob Burger OVER COOKED: 1/5 Hand Cut Fries: 4/5 Afghani Salad: 4/5 Naan: 2/5 Chutney Sauce: 5/5 (Should be bottled to sell) Homemade vinaigrette: 5/5 (Should be bottled to sell) Lemon pieces for water: 5/5

I have tried nearly all their items. When they are busy the food comes out pretty slow, but that's understandable. When they are not busy and you order a burger or Chapli Kabob you will still wait awhile. If you are in a hurry, order the Chicken Kabuli or the Afghan Macaroni!

If you don't like an item on the menu, make sure you say so a couple of times. They tend to forget about taking off Olives in my salad or the raw onion on my burger (why not grill the onion?)...till this gets fixed, no 5/5...

Staff are very friendly. The owner is a chill dude!

Original Rating - 3/5 on 6/20/17 The food is very good! Food comes out very quickly. Staff are very friendly.

My main CON is that the portion size for the Kabob meat for to go orders does not equal the quantity for eating at the restaurant :(

This is especially bad when I'm paying $14.03 for 4 (vs7-8) piece of meat, lots of rice, 2 pieces of bread, and a scoop of vegies.

Oh, in addition, if you order the Loaded Green Salad with Sirloin Kabob, I guarantee that you'll get more meat on it than if you order the Kabob for basically $3...

If you're reading this, it's likely that you are about to write an amazing review-or-are looking for a great place to eat. Here's the low-down: House of Shah is absolutely amazing, from the moment of stepping through the doors you are immediately greeted by smells of distant lands and smiles of happy, warm staff. When it's time to belly up to the register (it's counter service), make sure to ask for Sal or his beautiful wife Juliana. He'll gladly take you on a tour of the menu. Finding out what you like and suggesting from their array of dishes to choose from to find your perfect meal. When it's time to find a seat you choose from takeout, seated inside, or to enjoy the beautiful weather on House of Shah's intimate patio overlooking downtown Woodland. While you can't go wrong with any choice on the menu, I ordered the Sirloin kebob while my wife ordered the Chicken kebob. (a tough decision since everything on the menu is delicious) Both were seasoned and cooked perfectly, served with salad, rice, naan and two dipping sauces. (If you want the secret sauce, you'll have to ask about the jalapeno Serrano garlic sauce) After mopping my plate clean with naan(my wife easily had left-overs) we considered dessert. Afghan ice cream sundae. Vanilla ice cream topped with pistachios and rice noodles, ending with sweet cream and rose water. While exiting and once again, receiving a warm goodbye, we took a lap around downtown woodland before heading back...

THE WORST!!! Their food is far from Afghan food. If you have tasted real Afghan food (which you can find a lot of good Afghan restaurants in Sacramento), you'd know that their food is nothing like Afghan food. Went there with family and we all got disappointed, seems like they have everything ready cooked and frozen and they just heat up in the oven and serve it. Their Afghan wraps - beef/chicken were served cold as if they had been taken right out of the fridge pre-made. Their Aush and Mantoo were the worst, seemed like they had filled the Mantoo dumplings with salt instead of meat. Having been to a handful of Afghan restaurants in California, this was far the worst experience I had. I feel sorry for everyone else who didn't have real Afghan food and they assume this is the best they can get. Most of the 5 stars in the review are from people who I assume had never tasted Afghan food and that's why they are giving 5 stars which is ridiculous. I went in based on the reviews and what a disappointment this was. The photos look appetizing but...
