Illinois Has the Best Beers in America? These Award-Winning Brews Just Proved It

Prior to arriving, I read some of the recent reviews, which were negative, and feel our experience was the exact opposite. We were greeted right away and taken to a hi top table. My husband racked himself getting on the stool as they are contoured. We had a good laugh. I love brewery vibes and for being a Sunday mid-afternoon, I felt it was a little quiet inside. The patio was hopping outside. I prefer a good cocktail over a beer and was excited that I had several choices. Mike went with Lumpys beer and I chose the Blackberry Haze made with Blackberry Brandy and jalapeno. It was perfectly balanced with the heat from the pepper. For apps, we tried the Grizzly pretzel and the onion rings. The pretzel has 2 dipping sauces, mustard and beer cheese. The pretzel has a nice butter and salt topping. The onion rings were a little soggy, as they are made fresh and battered with their Lumpys beer. The dipping sauce was awesome. For dinner, I had the Strawberry Salad, and Mike got the sausage pizza. The salad was perfectly dressed and was super fresh with berries and walnuts. The pizza had the carmelized crust and was delicious with a good sauce. Mike tried a 2nd beer with watermelon and didn't think it tasted natural. He said it tasted like body wash. Who knows what body wash tastes like? Our server was attentive and we had good service. Overall we had a great experience and will be back to try other food, beer and cocktails!

Excellent beers! Beer flights are $14 for six (6) tasters so decided to get a flight of all of their twelve (12) beers on tap, pictured here. Not in any particular order, really, but here are some recommendations/comments on their beers: Probably the best one was their 53/14ers (White Nitro Stout, 6.2%) - not a huge stout drinker but this one was super-smooth and tasty, perfect for a chilly night or last drink; Broken Carabiner (Traditional Ale, 5.8%) - light and refreshing in scent and taste, green tea ale complex; Mt Massive (IPA, 8.1%) - excellent if this is the only drink you'll be having; Monkey Nut (Porter, 4.8%) - nutty-buttery, enjoyed last; Smoky Bear (Historical Beer-Lichtenhainer, 3.8%) - definitely smokey and outdoorsy like a campfire and with a sour finish; Woolly Jamba (Smoothie IPA Milkshake, 6.2%) - tasty, you can't go wrong with this style; Skellington's Delight (Sour Smoothie, 6.7%) - another one you can't go wrong with, if you love sours; BA-Corbet's Couloir (Bock-Doppelbock, 9.6%) - not too dark or syruppy for a BA and easy to drink. And finally, the pizza wasn't bad but was a bit overpriced and not super Neapolitan-style in my books. Pictured here is their Ike & Oak Pizza - dough was good and brown mustard was a nice kick.

Tried this place tonight only to be met with disappointment. The beast burger sounded heavily appealing. The tomato jam was the worst feature only to be met with a taste that seemed to be pizza sauce like. 10/10 would not recommend. Along with it being rare vs actual medium. The nachos were decent, great presentation. The service to receive the food was lengthy. We finished our food and sat with a table full and had to ask for the dishes to be cleared to enjoy after dinner drinks. Sydney our server specifically asked how checks would be split at the beginning of our dine. She returned the checks and they were wrong each couples food items were jumbled on one another’s checks and she split the appetizers without asking us. We asked for her to correct it and there was an instant attitude change. She told us why it should be correct and we said okay it’s wrong, she saw it was wrong and continued on about why it should be write but right there in black and white it was wrong…and we are simply asking for it to be fixed. She came back and put each bill on the table and then held her hand out in silence waiting for the cards right then and there. That behavior is UNPROFESSIONAL. RUDE. & Honestly not any quality of service that makes us and the couple we dined with want to return. Be kind and don’t get an attitude with the customer for a computer glitch...

The food was decent but I had a rather questionable experience. I, asked the hostess for a table for two. A friend was meeting me there shortly. The hostess said it would be a 45 minute wait. I was taken aback at the given wait time because I thought I saw a couple of empty spots through the window before entering. This prompted me to take a closer look at my surrounding, and back at the hostess and the two people standing on either side of her. What I noticed, from my vantage point, I was the only African American that I could see. Although business looked pretty good I saw lots of empty tables on the patio, people exiting from inside, couple empty seats at the bar and table being cleaned. No one else appeared to be waiting.

The hostess and those near were waiting for my answer of whether I'd wait or leave. I put my name on the waiting list. They said they'd send a text when my table was ready. Immediately after exiting I received a text saying 45 minutes wait, will notify when table is available, with an option to be remove from the list.

My birracial friend, who can easily be mistaken for Caucasian, arrived 10 minutes or less after my exit. She called me from inside the restaurant saying that she was immediately seated.

I can't help wonder why there was a 45 minute wait time for me, but she arrived after me and was...
