went in and around 7:00 on a Sunday night, last day of a 3-day tourism stay. there's another establishment called just "Pizza chef" and I think we went to the wrong one, but we decided to go for it anyways. seating areas where spacious with large vintage 80s booths. if you ever watched the old TV show Alice and you remember the cook in the back, this was the owner that was behind the counter. no customers when we walked in but owner was at the counter talking to somebody about something on his phone. he continued the conversation with his buddy and ignored us, and also let his phone ring a good six or eight rings before he took his time saying goodbye to the guy and answer his phone. we thought that was kind of not a great sign but proceeded on. wife got pasta, owner agreed it looked pretty shitty when we brought it up..... asked for the pizza to be well done because of the extra cheese, wasn't done that well, couldn't pick up a slice without the cheese sliding off. typically on a well-done pizza, the cheese stays put. while we were there someone else brought their order back because it was made wrong, and we all know how bad it has to be when you bring a pizza back that you've already gotten home with. looks like the guys been there a long time and doesn't depend on the locals for repeat business. not trashing the place, but the pizza world is super competitive and you can do better if you're in town for a visit. the actual seating area was pretty good, decor wasn't bad, food and service were the worst parts. only ate a couple of slices, brought the rest Home hoping I don't waste it but I think I know where it's going to end up. seems like maybe the owner is just burnt out and can't get good help? don't know but I'd try...
Read moreI volunteer for VINS transporting injured birds from the southern VT area. I always drive by the Pizza Chef and finally decided I was going to stop and get something I could eat on the way home. I was so tired and hungry, damp from the rain, and probably looked a mess from working before I took the transport call. I noticed the parking lot was full, but did not notice they were closed on Saturday - and it was Saturday. The door was unlocked so I unknowingly walked in. The atmosphere was cheerful and I stared at all the goodies on the menu. I noticed no one was behind the counter and slowly started to get the feeling that maybe I wasn’t supposed to be there? As I turned to leave, I believe it was the owner who noticed me, and asked if he could help me. I told him I wondered in, in search of food. He explained they were closed on Saturdays, but they were having a graduation party for his kid. I apologized for crashing the party, but he invited me to stay and eat with them! He would not take no for an answer so I selected some items to go, including desert, and he told me to grab a drink too! He declined any payment. I was in shock from his kindness and generosity! Had I thought about it at the time I should have left some cash for a graduation gift! I will never forget how welcomed I was there! And the food was...
Read moreI hope it was situational ... but the wait was ridiiiiculous. We pulled up to window since it says curbside only and no customers allowed inside. Prob about 10 min after ordering... then delivery truck comes in (mind you we only ordered a couple salads and an order of chicken tenders) makes us move so he can park across front (now I would think in this situation they would be looking around truck for arrivals) so delivery truck does his whole delivery annnnd orders a pizza and waits fir it and is done and back to his truck and fumbles around some more for a few before leaving then we pull back ahead to window and still prib another 10 min before our order is brought out to us. Then wait another 5 min or so for them to go in and find forks because the salads came out with nothing to eat...
