I LIVE in Southwest Detroit. Also known as Mexican Town. I generally don't trust Mexican food outside of that area. I'm Hispanic, so I'm also a pretty mean judge. We decided to try here after good reviews on Yelp, and an in-person review from a colleague. Restaurant is in a strip mall, small, but clean and cozy. My first impression was the prices were a little high. And that Torta's (Mexican sandwich) seemed to dominate the menu. I looked around, and saw those advertises EVERYWHERE, even the back of the waitresses shirts. Prices were a bit high from what we are used to for our Mexican Food, but it seems their signature item. So we ordered two. We were given 4 Salsas complementary with chips. And asked of we wanted Complimentary Fideo Soup. Hell yes I do! I love Fideo. If they can do good soup, and food rice, usually it's a good spot. Fideo was awesome. Salas's were amaZing. The green salsa was so spicy, buy I was addicted. We asked for more chips because more salsa was free. You pay for the chips ($1), but you get a big amount. Our food came out , and the Tortas were HUGE! Twice the size of a normal one. And delicious! Stuffed with cheese and avocado, and so much meat. There were a ton of different kinds. Service was fast and efficient, polite and we haven't had that much attention in a long time. She got 25-30% in tip lol. We will be back. This was great Mexican Food...
Read morePer a suggestion from a close friend(which I dragged her here with me lol) we took a 1.2hr ride to Downriver to have the experience! BOY WAS IT WORTH IT! I started with a large bowl of Guacamole(a lil under seasoned but very fresh!) Ordered the Appetizer Queso Birria Pizza(it was HUGE, JUICY, TASTY & worth every penny) I didn't know the QBP was that large so I said what the heck they're known for Torta BOY did I ever get a TORTA! I ordered the Cuban and this sandwich was soooo flavorful, meaty, and worth every cent! Service was excellent, owners daughter heard me say the the fries were cold and POOOF another order of hot fries appeared! Crystal(our server) was personable and her Mom makes the Birria(I wanna be invited to her Mom's house for any special occasion!) The Consummé was Rich, Meaty, perfectly seasoned and had such a deep beefy flavor that you know that came from the pot she cooked the meat in! Galinda's you've made a customer for life outta me! Will be back and bring more friends! If I can make on Suggestion por fa vor Birria Ramen! Omg with the Consummé you have, tasty meat I'd gladly pay $20 for a bowl! Thank you and...
Read moreGalindos is a moderately priced sit-down Mexican restaurant that blew me away from a food quality/taste perspective.
Our meal started with the chorizo and cheese fries, which were made with thick square cut potatoes and a richly flavorful cheese sauce that had a level of sophistication I wasn’t expecting. This was NOT velveeta with frozen GFS french fries.
The steak fajitas were a modest ask, but the steak again brought it home with intense flavors and great charring. Really special. My boyfriend’s chipotle burrito was enormous (easily a 2 meal dish) that was pressed on the grill for a crispier exterior—-a real delight.
The side rice is fluffy, the refried beans delicious, and the decor is decidedly bougie—-marble tables, oversized wicker seats, and bright clean walls. My only gripes would be around service—-though well staffed, I think the staff was catching up on odds/ends around the restaurant, which caused some lags in responsiveness. But, that was probably an anomaly, and we’re definitely planning to go back. A+. Tell...
